I only have experience with one of them: I had a 7-series E23 (1984 733i). At first, I loved it. I have long legs and it had leg room. I got one with a very nice manual transmission. It was comfortable, quiet and handled great. I tend to keep cars a long time, but I traded it on a Honda (Acura Legend) before 2 years. The car was highly VERY computerized. I am a computer guy and I remember small computers from that time. I would not use the word reliable to describe them. Every week, something different on the 733i would break. I had 5 different cruise controls fail. Warning lights would come on and go off. I had ignition problems, brake system problems, even things like seat belt warnings. The radio would lose settings. I was working long, irregular hours and the car was my daily commute car. Daily meant 7 days per week. The dealer was sympathetic and would fix things promptly and generally would provide a loaner, but I couldn't stand the unreliability.

That list is depressingly bad. Lol. X5? 2-series? Doing laundry is more exciting than those...

This is really a list of "most significant" bmw's, not best. If we're talking about best, I would -
Respectfully disagree on Isetta 2-series (because why not the 1-series which was the original) Say they're effing kidding on: E60 (seriously??) I8 Tell them they should replace those four with : E9 (esp. CSL) E39 Z8 1-series M |

When you leave the E39 off your entire list has zero credibility. That is by many considered the greatest car BMW has ever produced.
And i8? LOL. All it does well is look good. Powertrain, performance, interior, price, steering feel, etc. are all underwhelming. Easily one of BMW's more disappointing cars. |

They do look futuristic and have that "super car persona" about them but Ive never driven one or talked to anyone that had. I have touched and played around with one in the showroom and they are definitely super cool... Ive just always wondered if they were worth the price. I dont think I could ever wrap my mind around spending $150k on one (even if I could) when I could by a 911 and save the change. Im honestly really digging the new 718. You can scoop those up for under $60k all day. |

IMO the i8 doesn't not look that good given the price class it's in.
Looks too lego-esque to me - the style works for the i3, since it is a quirky car, but not for the i8. |

I think "best" is determined differently by people.
For me, I'd say some of my favorites would include the E39 and the E46 ZHP.

Wohoo! I own 2 on the list. A 2 series (M240i) and an almost E46 M3 (E46 330Ci ZHP)

I'm biased, but you have to add the e36. Also, the e39 was the best M5 ever produced IMO.
