The Japanese offer a very worry-free ownership experience. I never have to worry weather my IS will start or it will force me to sell a kidney to keep it running. Can't say the same about the Bimmer.
BMW has long been my favorite brand but they just don't offer the driving experience they used to. I feel all three German brands have built cars that drive the "same." Tech, comfort, and isolation now take precedence over the visceral experience of feeling the pavement through the steering wheel. I'd like to move onto Porsche in the future. |

Moral of the story... no luxury marque currently offers anything special when compared to the other... all cars are becoming very similar.

I sold my e90 335i... For a 2015 S5. Love the car but I miss RWD and some of the basic's features of the BMW:
Car shuts off(When on ACC mode) when locking iDrive simplicity Physical next and prev radio buttons Locking the car when the engine is on Cheaper parts Simpler suspension setup OEM Forged wheel selection BUT THE S5 DOES HAVE PHYSICAL CUP HOLDERS AND CENTER CONSOLE SPACE! I want to go back to bmw, but the f80 m3 really doesn't intrigue me. I wish they still had the V8. The Z4 28i seems pretty cool. Light weight and just enough power. But yeah, I think I'd go back to BMW. |

The technology gap is closing and people are realizing luxury companies are buying tech from the same suppliers, so essentially charging you more for the same crap. I think if luxury brands want to survive, they need to get back in the business of innovation, whether it be engineering, safety, or luxury features not found elsewhere. Easier said than done.

Any sort of brand loyalty is dumb IMO. So many fun toys out there to try. Why limit yourself on purpose? SMH

I have leased my last 3 BMWs. A 2012 640i GC, 2015 M4 and now a 2018 540i M sport. My local BMW dealership has provided me great prices and great lease deals. I have looked at other brands because it's always good to compare what's out there. However at the end of the day I buy a BMW for how it feels and the quality of the finishes of the car more than the name. I live in Silicon Valley where BMWs are a dime a dozen. Luxury cars out here are normal so driving a luxury car is nothing. A day does not go by without me seeing dozens of Teslas, BMWs MB, RR, Lexus, Audis etc. It is the exact opposite of the East coast and Mid West where domestic cars seem to be the majority. Here domestic is without question a very low percentage of cars on the road.

Technically, aren't we are BMW brand loyalists in some form?
If we use this forum as a subset of society... I thinks its rare to find a "one and done" owner. Most people on here have had more than one BMW in the past and some own multiple at the same time. For me, this is my first Bimmer and Im positive - it wont be my last. |

This, and people's needs change depending on what stage of life they are in.

I have had one BMW before, E90 335i. Before the 540i I have ordered, I had Chevys, VWs, Hondas and Mitsubishis. However, I do agree with you, my next car might just as well be a BMW again. Not because of the badge, but because of the type of car I am after now. Having driven an E and A6, I can't see myself buying either. |

My wife was loyal to BMW after her X1 was totaled. Hit by a stolen car, fell on its side and slid into a telephone pole. First responders were amazed she was alive, much less totally uninjured.
But the F30 is so dull and characterless that it's burned up any brand equity. Off to Audi or Porsche, so VAG of some sort. I gave up on BMW when I wanted a five door with a manual and they wouldn't play that game. |
