Numbers are strong in US dispute threat from Tesla. Article from Electrik saying BMW sales are impacted by model 3 as folks are trading in 3 series. Could just be because it is an aging model. 5 series is up and we will see once we ha e G20 sales numbers. Not sure how much cross shopping really happens as the market for the vehicles is different.

The YTD sales of 4 series are down quite a bit. Unusual since 4 series G2x based redesign remains rather far away.

x2 selling strong, which is effectively a hatchback. If it had "hatchback" badge it would sell much less

Tesla Model 3 sold more passenger cars in USA than ALL BMW Passenger Cars combined. Actually 50% more.

Just as it did the month before.

Not only that, it is the #1 American made Car.

That's not including SUVs.

With so many model 3s being sold it will be an absolute bargain on the secondary market. I'll be picking up a low mileage used one for less than $20k in a couple years. After tax incentives the $35k version will be pretty cheap new but even cheaper used.

Reread what I originally posted and put in BOLD in response to your original post on Tesla v BMW 3 Series.

I'm shocked to see these model 3 sales numbers. I wonder for how long these higher sales will sustain.

why everyone is surprised by Model 3 sales figure?
Don't they have something like 400k in reservation?
Which means, they will sell as many as they produce, until they finally deliver all of those reservations.

Real question should be if they are finally making money and if they can keep those sales number after the reservation runs out.

As for the BMW, YOY sales dropped only 1.2% for passenger cars. Which means the Tesla model 3 sales was not affecting the BMW passenger cars yet.

Someone falling from 50th floor isn’t affected by the fall while passing 12th floor yet either.

And that is important because...?

Tesla sold a bunch of cars and BMW's sales increased YoY. Whats the connection?

BMW isn't going out of business because of Tesla. A Tesla isn't a BMW and vice versa. When the all electric 3 series gets released it will have more amenities than the spartan model 3 with a glass roof and no sunshade or Apple car play.

There has been a lot of media buzz about Tesla conquest sales from former BMW owners.

BMW's US sales are up in 2018 coming off a ~10% drop in 2016 and another 2.5% drop in 2017 - important facts to keep in perspective. It remains to be seen whether they will ever recover.

While the idea that Tesla can single-handedly oust BMW and the other leading luxury makes in the US is probably not realistic, it is clear that they do pose some threat. BMW, like most every other automaker, is investing heavily in electric and electrified vehicles that they plan bring to market in the next 7 to 8 years. A lot can happen in that time. We are at a pivotal point in the history of the automobile, and BMW seems to find itself in the spotlight.

Ask @Bimmer456 who first brought up the Tesla connection in the 4th post in the thread.

And to be clear, while BMW Sales may be up YoY, BMW Passenger Car Sales continue to fall.

The BMW increases have been due to SUV sales.

Yes and...? SUV sales generate higher revenues and margins so thats all good news for BMW.
