Can someone clarify the new BMW CPO warranty terms?

So im about to pull the trigger on another CPO, just want to make sure it got this right.

Basically the "New" CPO is now +1 year / unlimited miles, basically meaning

5 years bumper to bumper from first sale date; miles don't matter anymore.

And that extra year is the same as the original warranty, not an "extended" type warranty yes?

I drive a lot so that unlimited miles is actually quite good

You are right. Here is the CPO language from BMWUSA: https://cpo.bmwusa.com/warranty

TOTALLY INCORRECT

AS IS THE RESPONSE ABOVE

The link in the post above even states it is a limited warranty and NOT AN EXTENSION of the original 4 Year/50,000 mile warranty.

The warranty kicks in for 12 months once 50,000 miles is reached, so if the car reaches 50,000 miles in 30 months, the original warranty would expire and the CPO would then kick in and extend for 12 months of unlimited miles...or 42 months total in that example.

If you do not understand the MAJOR differences in coverage of the original warranty and a CPO, you need to do more research.

Yes you are right I bought A M4 in March and it was a CPO and it was confusing when dealership told me because they kept changing there words and saying something else everytime so I guess they didn’t know either but basically he has it right and there are differences in the CPO and the Original, everything cosmetic is my problem now, and engine and mechanical stuff is still under warranty.

Atleast that’s what I was told but I’m still weary about my dealer though that’s why I’m changing dealers. Please correct me if my dealer presented me with wrong info.

BMWUSA site says it extends the warranty to 5 years unlimited miles. Even if the 50,000 mile mark is reached in under 4 years.

Again, suggest you re-read second line in your link.

1 Year with unlimited miles AFTER the expiration of the original 4 Year/50,000 mile new warranty.

If you hit 50,000 miles in 24 months, the CPO will only cover you for an additional 12 months or 3 years total.

Covers you for one year after the expiration of the 4 year 50,000 miles warranty ... for a total of 5 years unlimited miles.

Go read the contract before you post.

Then post back how you are wrong.

You would do better reporting BMW to the BBB for false and misleading advertising on their webpage and not using words upto than arguing here.

I just quoted you from the BMWUSA site. If their site is wrong then my post is wrong.

Website is not wrong. It is deceptive and misleading.

You can get 5 Year Unlimited miles, just as long as you have not hit 4 Years/50,000 miles by the 48th month since Car was delivered.

Otherwise, it’s 12 months from the time the original warranty expired.

Again, it says 1 Year with unlimited miles AFTER the expiration of the original 4 Year/50,000 mile new warranty.

By including 1 year AFTER EXPIRATION of Original Warranty, that sets the parameters.

That line would not be needed if it was unlimited coverage for the 60 months after car delivery.

BMW Certified Pre-Owned: Covers you for 1 year with unlimited vehicle miles, after the expiration of the 4-year / 50,000 mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks (Valid only in the U.S.A. including Puerto Rico) for a total of 5 years / Unlimited vehicle miles. 5 years of BMW Roadside Assistance is included. Additional plans are available to extend your vehicle’s coverage up to a total of 6 years with unlimited miles.

The Certified Pre-Owned Protection Plan provides specific coverage against defects in material and workmanship; the plan is not a Maintenance Program or an extension of the original 4-year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks (Valid in U.S.A. including Puerto Rico). There are various items that are not covered by these warranties.

See that's confusing AF. The TOTAL kinda implies is 5 years regardless if i hit 50k miles in 24 months.

In that scenario, wouldn't that be 36 months / unlimited miles of CPO coverage? (not original warranty)

BMW should say UP TO 5 years, their wording just sucks.

Bottom line, you get one year with unlimited miles after either 50k miles or four years from original in service date.

Things is, maybe im missing something simple.... How would they know the exact date I crossed the 50k miles threshold and start the 1 year unlimited doomsday countdown? ( Unless my car "calls back home" via teleservices and rats me out ).

Yeah i guess if i bring it for service and the odometer is read...but you know what i mean?

But your car very much does 'call back home' - I routinely get those 'your car told us it was time for a service' emails. I think it also knows what I'm thinking sometimes.....

With the car wanting to go in for service every 10,000 miles, you probably will have a service just before it hits 50,000 miles.

Yes I know what you mean and I do not have a 100% answer for you.

But I can easily speculate that given error codes with dates and other events are recorded in the vehicle’s memory, most likely vehicle odometer is also recorded....especially the magic 50,000 mile mark, which would be accessed at Dealership if you come in for repair and odometer is over 50,000 miles.

Beyond that, you will notice Carfax and other databases have miles listed from other sources including title transfers, license renewal and emissions tests, just to name a few.

And there is always the possibility of car calling home as speculated above.

My CPO plan is additional 2 years, bringing it to 6 years and 100k miles warranty. Much better than BMW’s slimed new version. Seems BMW is going downhill I used to have 4 year 50k maintenance now it’s 3 year 36k. Don’t think I’ll be buying a new BMW again

Current maintenance is worse than that. Brakes and wiper blades are now excluded from the plan. So all you get is three free oil changes and one brake fluid flush.

Worse yet

The CPO does not cover the adaptive $ shocks or any suspension bushings.
