Even muscle cars aren't cheap

All this talk (recently in this thread) of American cars being cheap, tried buying a V8 stang or Camaro?? With a few options the drive away price including taxes, fees etc is nudging $60K.

Sticker? Outside of a GT350, all muscle cars are wildly discounted. Having said that, I just configured a Bullitt for $53k, not much more you could add to it. It's probably 400 pounds heavier than the Supra, but will have an extra 80 or so hp too.

Certainly a bigger, different type of car, with a back seat, larger trunk and probably wildly larger gas tank if BMW sticks to their stupidly small tank in Z cars. Of course the Mustang is a manual, which is either a good thing or bad.

I really don't see a large market for this Supra. The muscle cars will remain comfortably more powerful and cheaper. The Cayman and 4C will remain sportier and more focused. I think the most promising thing for the Supra would be if Mazda and/or Nissan resurrect the RX or Z to create some competition for this thing.

Yea, for that $ a Hellcat is the bargain of the century. $50k+ on a Bullitt?

The new Mustang GT with the 10 speed auto is really damn fast. It hurts feelings.

I rented one a couple of weeks ago, it's fantastic, tonnes of power just everywhere. But dealers are holding firm here, 2018's are selling USED for well north of $50K.

Yeah. In Germany they are about $38-40k. $6-8k off sticker for the military discount.

My coworker just got one for MSRP which seemed a bit much to pay for basically a PP1 GT with a manual, but he loves it

If this supra had 400+ HP for 40kish base it would be a great alternative to the GT but it seems to be in an awkward spot.

I also wouldn't ever buy anything else B58 based lol

Both are overpriced. That Mustang will be worth $25k in 2 weeks. If you want a Mustang, you buy used.

Don't get me wrong, the S550 Mustang is a great performer, but a Mustang for $50k that is not a high HP GT500 or GT350R = Hard pass

35k for a pp1, then add a whipple etc for another 10kish and you have a straight line monster for a reasonable price ... but obviously lose the powertrain warranty and I don't know how I feel about the car handling that kind of power

Used mustang's are selling for silly high prices here, but then 18 ZL1s are selling for more than the 59k my dealer was offering new, so the market is ridiculous

You can buy an already boosted S550 for $30kish. They can handle a lot of power.

No point in having all that power when you can't put it down. Huge pet peeve of mine when people think power adders without the supporting suspension and tire mods necessary will work, you'll just have a death trap that can create smoky burnouts

Consider other factors - inflation and the rising cost of vehicle production. To find a non-econobox for under 40k is becoming harder and harder, let alone a performance car. The difference now is, a well optioned muscle car can match the performance of a similarly optioned german alternative that costs 70-80k. The gap has closed significantly.

2016 BMW M4 vs Camaro SS

I know not everyone likes these guys but the video seems on point regarding this topic....the Camaro is over $30K cheaper than the BMW and is almost identical in performance.

You mean beat said German car, not just match.

Anyway, all new car prices have gotten way out of control. No wonder most folks can't save $ or do anything while the 1% just gets richer...

In fact, cars in the US are cheaper than just about anywhere else on earth....

Most folks can't save $ because they have the financial literacy of a toddler.

In the states, an adjusted gross income of at least $480,930.

My previous car was a 2018 Camaro SS 1LE. Had heads up, Recaros, wide sticky tires, upgraded suspension with magnetic shocks. Basically a ZL1 without the supercharger. Some people were getting them around $35k new on the Camaro forums. That is the biggest bargain out there IMO. I just needed something I could drive every day with a family or I would have kept it.
