I'll spend my last 32 days working on a job I don't even like, about evenly dividing my work time with web surfing and forums while eating chocolate. Oh. Except I do have a vacation coming up soon. I'll be visiting relatives one last time and road trip tent camping in Olympic National Park on the Olympic Loop.

I voted that it would solve some of the universe's most vexing problems. Although I made this my vote, I am prepared for the planet to be destroyed.
What problems will be solved? 1. Peace in our time. 2. Unlimited energy. 3. No more global warming. 4. A chicken in every pot. 5. U.S. Americans will be able to read maps. |

Top 10 list of things I'm going to do before the world is sucked up into a black hole or turned into strange matter:
1) Instead of helping old laides across the street I will now help them part with their hard earned money by giving them a swift knock to the head with my homemade billy club fashioned out of a rubber hose, some fine sand and color coordinated duct tape (even thugs should have some style) 2) I will now find out if there really is such a thing as the "VIP room" at the local strip club 3)My urge to deficate in a paper bag, light it on fire and place it on my noisy neighbor's doorstep at 2:30 AM will finally be realized 4) I'll try that dating service that everybody is always suggesting to me (including my wife) 5) After I tell my boss he's an egotistical space cadet with the intellect of ringworm infection (and just about as much charisma) I will spend the majority of my days eating Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream out of the carton while watching reruns of the "Jerry Springer Too Hot for TV Made For TV Show" (because you know there's gonna be some hot chicks with big boobs on there -or so I keep hoping every time I watch it) 6) I plan on determining which grows faster over a months time, nose hair or back hair 7) Take some personal enrichment courses by select authors such as Tony Robbins and Carleton Sheets (because you know real estate is gonna be HOT after the world blows up!) 8) I'll buy at least $100 worth of scratch tickets per day. It takes a long time to collect on the powerball winnings. By that time we'll all be dead and I'll be damned if I won't bilk the system for as much as I can until then. 9) Spend hours composing useless posts on my favorite forums just to watch them be deleted by the semi facist admins and moderating staff 10) I'll work on becoming super flexible so at day 32 I can bend over and kiss my ass goodbye - literally Last edited by toofasttooslow; 08-09-2008 at 04:55 AM.. |

do you have any f**king idea what it takes for a REAL black hole to form? Not something we have the power to create.
" A black hole is formed when a star, 2.5 times the mass of our sun (stated as the Landau-oppenheimer-Volkou limit) runs out of its hydrogen and other nuclear fuel, it gets cold and will shrink to an infinitely small point. Its gravity will then grow strong and suck everything into it, including light. If it is a star that ran out of fuel but does not have enough mass to become a black hole, it becomes a neutron star or white dwraf, which are dead stars." So wheres the option on the pole that says "close this thread for obvious reasons" ZoMg HhhhoOoWww WwiLLL yYyyoOuu LLiiVvve yyYoUr LaSt MoNtH?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe another doomsday example would be the movie "When Worlds Collide". It could be a serious question of the risks that science is willing to take for all of us. Another example would be when the first nuclear bomb test was done. There was a minority opinion among the scientists that it would cause a chain reaction that would burn the atmosphere right off the planet. Eventually, an alarmist might be right, and then it's too late for all. Myself, I look forward to the results of the experiments. If we all die, well, I hope you were ready to go, too. |

It may turn out to be nothing but I still dislike the idea of a bunch of egotistical scientists gambling the future of the world on some hypothesis that has never actually been proven. Seems a little risky to me - even if the odds are one in 50 million that a black hole is created.
And to boost nation's comment, it's all relative. The amount of energy that will be released by this collider is enough to create a small black hole. The thing is is that the scientists predict that it will quickly vanish. Excuse me, but have they ever even seen a black hole vanish? There is no supporting evidence that black holes don't exist on the nanometer level, so their conjectures are pure specultion. Here's how it would possibly go down if a black hole were created in the accelerator: The black hole would not have enough gravitational force to pull much matter into it at first and since it has a mass of near 0 it would be pulled through solid objects such as brick, stone, iron (you get the idea) until it reached it's gravitational homeostasis point (center of the earth). In the center of the earth gravity and pressure would literally force matter into this black hole making it's gravitational field stronger and stronger every day until it had enough matter to sustain it's own strong field. Then it would grow in size until it literally swallowed the earth up from the inside. All along we'd experience things on the surface like massive earthquakes as the tectonic plates began shifting wildly. The process could take months or years even but we would not know it until it was just upon us. All that has a 1 in 50 million chance of happening. Pretty comforting to think that a bunch of eggheads are ready to risk the human race on odds that are only slightly better than being hit by lightning. Not to mention they've already had some explosions and problems with the accelerator itself because it was under engineered. If they can make mistakes with that, they can make mistakes with their calculations as well. I would vote that they would study their particle physics awhile longer before embarking on what could be a catastrophic man made disaster of epic proportions. |

It will be like Doom, they are going to open a gateway into hell and demons and shit are going to come through it.
We better modify our cars with machine guns and battering rams and run to high ground...
