Exclamation New Audi RS5 info (engine + weight figures)

Engine:

4.2 V8. 470bhp, 500Nm
7s S-tronic

Weight:

1702kg. It looks like it's going to be more nose heavy than the S5.

Design:

Test mules are running around with the new front bumper. It has big side intakes like the A3 Clubsport. Should be interesting!

On a side note, I seen a silver S5 with RS4 wheels today. It looked MEAN! I can only imagine the presence the RS5 will have on the road.

What'd they do to that V8 in order to get another 50 bhp/52 lb-ft out of it?

And 1702 kg comes out to be 3752 lbs.

To put that in perspective, an Audi RS4 has 420 bhp/317 lb-ft motivating 3415 pounds of mass.

Hmmm...don't know if it'll be much faster. It has another 300 lbs to move, and only 50 more hp/tq to help.

How does gearing/chassis tweaks change horsepower at the crank?

And yeah, the C63 is badass.

+1.....yeh I'm curious on how they got the torque to increase by that much?? I have never seen or heard of a naturally aspirated car carrying a 90lb-ft/liter figure(If it's the same displacement 369lb-ft/4.2=around 90)

Hmm...if the hp and torque figures are true, I think they are increasing a displacement. I am hoping it's forced induction but many reports point that its unlikely to be applied

And bimmer, RS4 doesn't weigh 3415pounds...it weighs around 3848 pounds (tested by edmunds). So that makes the RS5 lighter by around 100 pounds.

Haha wow I can't believe I didn't catch that mistake. I just pulled the number off some site when I searched for the curb weight.

Spot on. F430 Scuderia is at about 80 ft lb/liter. Audi is not going to squeeze 13% more torque per liter from a naturally aspirated engine. One of three possibilities only.

1. Displacement is wrong
2. Torque is wrong
3. It will get FI

Is it known whether the engine is still N/A or FI?

If it's N/A and still 4.2L then to get that amount of power would require a higher rev range. The new DSG is capable of 550Nm and 9000rpm, does this mean the new engine is revving closer to that limit, says 8600rpm.

I read somewhere that Valve-lift can increase torque by up to 12%, that would improve the 75ft/lbs per litre of the RS4 engine to 84ft/lbs, that is getting pretty close to the 90ft/lbs being suggested by hkz786. But then look at the S5 engine, it's at 77ft/lbs, add the same 12% improvement and you are at 86ft/lbs. Maybe this figure is starting to look a lot more believable than first thought.

Well, we know the new RS6 engines is an FI V10. I doubt that Audi will push the 4.2 V8 to 8,600 RPM or so, my bet is FI.

I know and agree, I was only showing how it might be possible to get the desired figure in question.
