Electric razors
I know this has been covered here before, but I have other questions and I'm too lazy to go digging up an old thread.
Since I'll be WFH for the foreseeable future, I'll be in my normal weekend mode where I don't shave for 2 or 3 (or 4) days at a time. When I do shave now, the twin blade isn't quite up to snuff. I have a beard groomer, but using that without the guard isn't ideal either. I'm thinking about a pure electric razor. If I go that route, will shaving multi-day stubble wreck the blades? Any recommendations for a quality shaver?

I've been pretty happy with my Braun Series 7. I've used the rotary head types for a while. They were ok. I found I had to replace the heads pretty frequently to maintain performance.
The Series 7 I've had for about 2 to 3 years. Only recently replaced the head on it. The kit I bought also included a cleaning station which uses some cleaning fluid from Braun in a cartridge. Whether this helped in maintaining the life, I would think it does to some extent. But I have no plans to look for a different shaver. |

I shave directly out of the shower after washing my face with hot water and soap. It works, but I have to go over the same area 3 or 4 times to get all the stubble. I was just thinking an electric would be easier. But I could be wrong. I haven't used an electric since my Army days when I used one in the field.

Sounds like you need better blades, unless you're full mountain man in 4 days.
I use to use an electric shaver years ago. I would just go over with the trimmer first if it was extra long, then use the shaver. Never had an issue, I'm not sure I ever even changes the blades in all the years I owned it. I found switching between electric and regular to sucked. My face had to get use to it. |

x2 for Braun Series 7. Give it a month for your face to adapt and you’ll never go back to blades. Very close shave and easy. I use some Afta pre-shave lotion before shaving.

Just grabbed the Braun 7 kit with the cleaner. I was going to pull the trigger on it back around Xmas and didn't, but today we had more than half the cost in Amazon points, so it came cheap. Arrives Friday.

For me, it’s shower, brush teeth, shave. Some people shave with wet face, I prefer after shower, but dry + Afta.

I figure I'll try it both ways. My skin is like parchment sometimes, so I nick easily. That's one motivation for moving away from a blade. I'll have to figure out the best way for me to use an electric. It seems to me that it'd be faster and easier than a blade, so maybe I'll shave more often and won't have to deal with several days of growth. (I know, serious first world problem.)

If you skin gets irritated after shaving (whether using razor or electric), splash some witch hazel on your face after shaving.

Agree. I love my series 7 Braun.
Also. Cost saving hack. I reuse the clean n renew cartridges. Just clean, refill with isoprop alcohol and a drop of lemon oil. |

![]() But good idea. Only issue is if you can even get your hands on Isopropyl alcohol. It's been sold out for weeks in my area along with masks, hand sanitizers, and disinfectant wipes. |

Just to drop final 20cts, I own the Philips Series 9000 complete with cleaning bath and I used it only with shaving foam because my skin is too sensitive about got scratched by metals.

I've tried a few electrics over the years. They do fine.
What I did find though was that the shaver wasn't as important as the prep work. All those ads you see on TV, meh. Cost per work really isn't us there. http://www.shavesecret.com/ That is what I found best for me, for the money. It doesn't seem like it would do anything. But trust me, shave oil is by far the best thing you can do. And it's cheap. But I haven't actually used a razor/shaver in over 10 years now. I'm pretty lazy. |
