Just got a 55" LG C9 OLED TV
First time in a long time I have said holy crap when I hooked up a new TV, but HOLY CRAP! 4K HDR on an OLED is amazing. The contrast is phenomenal. This one is 55" for the den and has a 5.1 Sonos rig for sound. I had it setup right under our current 50" LG 4k HDR playing the same 4k movie and it is just incredible how much better the OLED is.
Now I have to get a 77" version for the basement.

You're killin me.
I am a bit of a fussy fucker with TV's, i still run a plasma ffs because i cannot stand the look of LED or LCD. But OLED, now, now that looks right . But holy sticker shock batman, they are so expensive. I need a TV for the basement, maybe 60 inch, and the mrs income has halved and mine dropped a bit too but I fucking hate regular LED. |

Congrats on the new OLED. I have a B7 65" in the bedroom and it's by far the most beautiful TV I've ever had.

It's an LG 55" C9 from Costco. $1299. I went to pick it up with my wife and she reacted negatively to the price. She loves the picture, though.
Not sure what the refresh rate is. Not sure if OLEDs have a refresh rate. It lists their update rate as 1ms, whatever that means. Spent the evening watching it and it really changes TV. The depth of the picture is remarkable. Will have to seriously consider one of the 77" models for the basement, but they are $4k.

The C9 has a variable refresh rate that maxes at 120 Hz.

I played around with the user settings for the OLED this morning. There are so many settings it's mind boggling. I used some "expert" videos and articles to adjust the settings to what they said were best. Well that just made everything look like crap. The default settings are way better in my room. Had I bought this thing and had the "expert" settings I would be very disappointed. I can tell there is still some additional tweaks I need to do to get a better picture, but it sure isn't what the experts recommend. Maybe in a dark basement but not in my den.

Paid less than half for the 65” OLED than what I paid for the 50” Kuro years ago.

I bought the last of the Panasonic Plasma's, 50 inch for what, $750CDN.
For the price, an utterly brilliant TV, the color gradation, the depth of black, the magnificent viewing angles, just a great picture for the price and it even handles Gran Turismo Sport well too. I visit people with shiny new TV's and they are all absolute shite. Red in particular is blown out but the glowing around objects and the shitty viewing angles bother me. In regards to "expert" settings mentioned above, i find every single one is WAY WAY too warm. Out of the box most TV's are too blue and too saturated but anything calibrated is massively warm IMHO. I tend to fiddle with it myself, reducing saturation and sharpness is the first thing I do, then i usually pull up the black levels. F1 is actually an EXCELLENT program to fiddle with settings on as it has a range of colours and I know exactly what Ferrari red look like, get that right and you should be set. |

I still have a budget Panasonic plasma that I bought at Best Buy during a Black Friday sale that still runs today, and the picture quality/black levels/sports viewing crushes all the LED/LCD at 2x/3x the price.
Now, 2 years ago, the lady purchased me a LG C7 OLED that I was constantly talking about. In addition, I signed up for the Direct TV Now streaming service with an Apple TV 4K. Let me tell you, the picture quality reminded me of my plasma, AND then some. If you love sports and movies, nothing touches this technology. Heck, most of the newer iPhones use OLED for their screens. OLED is the bigger brother to plasma. If you like extensive research when making a sizeable purchase like an OLED tv, navigate to https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/be...-on-the-market. This site does a great job breaking down the best tvs, and OLED wins every time. Enjoy that beast! |

I have to say, I got a 55" Sony 4K HDR OLED Bravia for my sim racing rig and I am very impressed with it for gaming. However, I tried watching a Blu-ray on it the other day and I couldn't replicate the blacks I get on my Plasma. It wasn't a big deal, but I'm spoiled. Maybe I have to tinker with it some more? It was world better than my old LED's though.

Which one has potential burn in issues, OLED or QLED? Which one is better for game and which is better for viewing angles?
I am a bit of a viewing angle nazi. |

OLED has burn in issues but they pixel shift the display to prevent it. The OLED I have has no viewing angle issues. Looks the same from all angles. No clue on gaming.
