BRANDING
BMW, please keep the brand image and know your role. Work on a $500k car but please do not start making 4 cyl Jettas (1 series) and Passats (3 series).
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=131566 "The smaller sales target is part of a bigger rethinking of U.S. strategy that O'Donnell will present to his German bosses in January. That plan could include the reintroduction of four-cylinder powertrains, O'Donnell said. Currently, the smallest powerplant in the BMW brand's U.S. lineup is a six-cylinder engine." http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173036 |

Just a side note: in size, the VW Passat is the equivalent of the 5 serie and the Jetta is the equivalent of the 3 serie. The 1 serie is more the size of a VW Polo (you don't get this one in US, but the VW Rabbit is definitely larger than the BMW 1).

No. The Passat is as big as 3-series, an 1-series is like a Golf and a Jetta is just a Golf with a trunk. So Jetta is like a 1-series with 4 doors and trunk which does not exist.
