Anyone using Youtube TV?

My cable bill just went up another 25 bucks a month because my promotion ended.

I have 2 houses I am paying for cable tv at. I need to figure out of the YT TV is a viable option ?

Once I figure that out- if I move forward with that I need to figure out how much the internet would cost alone?

Yes, "cut the cord" more than a year ago though you never really cut the cord as you need internet access. Had cable for internet and TV, dropped all of it, got AT&T fiber and YouTubeTV. Saving around $100 a month and that is with the 1Gb fiber. Can't recall the number but you do get at least two households/sign-ins as my son away at college uses it. Very happy with it, has everything we watch including local channels live. Only thing missing is the History Channel but then they really don't cover much history anymore! Also has recording capability.

I don't have it but have been considering Hulu Live TV though. I know what you mean about getting ripped by the cable companies, in my case Comcast/Xfinity. I don't remember where I saw it but there are some good articles out there comparing all the different streaming services including YouTube TV, Hulu Live TV, etc.

I mean seriously, what's this shit about "regional sports fee" costing me 10 bucks? Then there's the "broadcast TV fee" of $19.45!

Like "kscarrol" said, you don't truly "cut the cord" entirely because you need the Internet service. That's where I'm stuck right now. I'm also considering moving to AT&T fiber since it's now available in my area but I don't like the fact they force you to use their proprietary gear to use it. Their "gateway device" I heard can be problematic and sometimes old, depending on which make/model you get? I happen to really like my Netgear WiFi router as it does an excellent job of distributing a strong signal throughout my home. I guess if you know what you're doing you can work around this by using a bridge mode or DMZ plus something or other, depending on model, etc.

If you're comfortable with your current cable arrangement sans the $25 rate hike, call your cable provider and tell them to give you the latest and greatest promotion equal to or greater than the $25 promotion that just ended or you'll leave. With a large volume of cable subscribers fleeing traditional cable providers for streaming services they will most likely want to fix up to to keep you. These cable providers have a retention department for situations just like this.

If you're over cable and want to go the YouTube TV route, I'm a user and have been for a little over two years. What exactly do you want to know?

Strictly speaking, you actually can cut the cord in the literal sense now since Verizon has begun rolling out 5G home internet. However, it isn't available in many markets yet, and it may not be cheaper than the lower cost cable internet providers in a given area. T-Mobile intends to debut a similar service this year (they have 4G now, but speeds can't compete with cable).

I have You Tube TV since 2019. Initially it was a great deal at $55 a month, I chose it over other streaming services because it had lot's of sports channels. Unfortunately five months ago it went up to $75 and I now question the value. Regardless it's always been pretty reliable and easy to navigate for the most part.

THAT is the problem. Everyone keeps jacking up their prices and taking advantage. Before you know it, the streaming services will not be far off from the standard cable providers. Netflix keeps raising their prices but they put out so much good stuff (and bad) that it's worth keeping IMO.

Cable for internet only is still cheaper than wireless (cell). The cell companies price it this way and cable companies follow close behind. Collusion? Probably not in legal terms. But in practical terms, yes.

We have internet-only cable. I have priced out the no-cable wireless option many times and haven’t made the switch.

I use YouTube a lot. For random on demand videos (car repair, cooking, past sporting events, many others). Also use it for free live streaming such as NASA and SpaceX and presidential speeches.

Google it but you yes you can put the AT&T modem into bridge mode and turn off it's WiFi so that it simply acts as a modem sending the signal to your gear. Did that with mine and still use my Netgear home mesh network...

Edit: And I am no tech expert by any means, it was really simple to do.

When you turn on the tv are the channels “there” or do you need to sign into the app like Netflix ? Did not see ion tv listed is it there ?

Also HBO and HBO Max look to be included in some articles and cost 11.99 month extra in others. Which is it ?

What remote do you use ? Tv remote ? No idea there mine are at this point lol.

We use a Roku on each tv and stream via high-speed Internet connection. No cable.

Services we pay for are Netflix, Disney (grandkids), and Hulu. Hulu is a pain with two houses because the account is only good at one location. Can use a mobile device anywhere, provided you log in to Hulu with that device at the “home” location within 30 days of using it elsewhere. That doesn’t work for the Roku, fire stick, etc. So if you keep two houses, consider an alternative to Hulu or pay for it twice.

We have the full Hulu package so we get local channels, sports, etc. just like cable but cheaper. There is a directory to let you choose channels, of course. And you don’t have to log in each session, it remembers.

We've had YouTube TV for about 2 years. I was aggravated when they went up to $65. It seems all the streaming services started low and crept up just like cable. Even though we don't have cable, I'm not even sure that we're making out better. I'm pretty sure we are back up to the same amount as of now.

When you turn on the television the channels are not "there". You must select the YouTube TV app as you would any other app (e.g., Netflix, HBO Max, Showtime Anytime, etc.). I never thought of this as an annoyance or cumbersome as the app launches relatively quickly.

Also HBO and HBO Max look to be included in some articles and cost 11.99 month extra in others. Which is it ?

HBO is not included in the base rate of $64.99 as of March 1, 2021. If you would like HBO you can add it on for a per month fee.

I use my television remote (LG, Sony, TCL) to navigate YouTube TV. You can use whatever remote you'd like so long as it works on your television.

I cut the cord many years ago. I started off with DIRECTV NOW (awful), went to Playstation VUE (awesome, now defunct) after that. Tried Sling for a few months, and I've been using Youtube TV for about a year and a half now. I have no complaints about Youtube TV, PS VUE was easily my favorite and YouTube TV is fairly close to what VUE was in many ways. Definitely recommed giving YouTube a go, I use Apple TV 4Ks for my devices. Good luck.

YouTubeTV is pretty legit as far as the channels we typically watch. We do not give up much. Of course, you need to look at the channel selections and make that determination for yourself.

For us, its literally the only streaming service that we are not giving up something pretty major to cut the cord.

Yes, its expensive, but you get a ton of channels and very few "filler channels". The "on demand" content can be annoying at times, as they force you to watch commercials (sometimes, a lot of commercials), but it hasn't affected us that much.

We use an LG smart TV to stream, and GoogleTV sticks on other TVs in the house. Works well, particularly if you watch sports and network TV like us.

Just avoiding paying almost 30 bucks a month for sketchy fees like regional broadcasting fee, etc. is a win-win.

Can you play extra if you need more than 3 concurrent sign in’s ? We are a family of 4.

I’d like to share it with my boys who live on their own.

I believe Youtube allows you to have 5 different streams going at one time, but I'd double check. The most I've ever had going at the same time was two, from the same IP address.

Just went to the YouTube TV website and they show 6 logins per account. Not sure if this a short-term promotion as it was a pop-up and I was not logged into my account.
