Should I accept this job offer?

I've been looking for jobs since last week. I sent my resume off indeed to some dealerships (I've got 2.5 years of automotive sales experience).

This is my last semester here at the community college I am attending. I'll most likely be transferring to a 4-year university and getting my bachelor's degree in information and decision science (it'll roughly take me 1.5-2 years to get the degree).

I am not planning on taking any summer courses so the 3-4 months I have off I'm planning on working and saving some money for rent and other college expenses.

I got a job offer at a local Toyota dealership (16 miles away from home one way). The GSM said he is really impressed with my sales experience and resume as a whole. I told him how this is my last semester here at the community college. He asked me if I was planning on continuing my education. I told him depending on coivd and if classes go in person I might or I might not (I lied. I'm going to continue my education regardless).

He said once I start working at Toyota I won't want to go back to college because of the amount of money people that sell cars there make(that's the thing I am afraid about. I want to finish my college degree and not do what I did two years ago. I dropped out and started selling cars full-time. Pissed my Asian parents off made decent money though). He said people that sell cars there make anywhere from $50k/year to $200k/year. That's a lot of damn money

Do y'all think I should take it?

Get the job. And you should feel good about quitting it once classes start because having it on your resume will make it much easier to get a similar job in the future if you decide to do so.

I'd rather do that but my parents don't agree with me.

There's no harm in taking the job, just make sure you stick to your plan for your future education.

Take the job bro. That sort of experience is valuable, everything has an element of sales in it.

Just stay disciplined when time for school comes around. The money will be nice but trust me, you're not gonna want to be selling toyotas for the rest of your life. You can easily make the same or more money within your field without the monthly fluctuations.

People who work at dealerships love to talk about how much money they make. It's not always the case.

That's what I was thinking. But, an employer seeing the number of jobs I quit wouldn't be a good thing.

I quit 3 jobs before. I quit two because I found better opportunities and one because of school.

That's true. One year you can make $200k. The other year you can be down to $100k

I mean, Toyotas are probably really easy to sell .

My people love them

The school ones (including this one) will be self-explanatory on the resume, so will not change anything. I very much like seeing summer jobs on college resumes.

Am I the only one finding it hard to believe that people are making up to $200k selling Toyotas? There is no way that is normal. You would have to sell a shit load of them and I would imagine it's very competitive in a place like that. Not that I have experience working for a car dealership, but I guess I'm just skeptical (and old).

No matter what, why not take the job but then continue your education? Won't harm anything.

It's a pretty big Toyota Dealership. Probably one of the biggest ones in Chicago (Illinois).

If you're curious, it's called Schumburg Toyota

I guess there's no chance for doing some part-time once you start college? Anyways i'd take it.

My advice. Get your degree now. Delaying your degree only hurts you. The car sales jobs will always be there. If you really want to work now, go to school and work part-time. No one is going to tell you that it is a better move to get your degree at an older age...the younger you are with the degree the better. Just my opinion (and I make hiring decisions on a regular basis).

Nope, no part-time for dealerships.

Plus, the 4-year university I am going to is in the city. The Toyota Dealership is in the suburbs

I mean, there are no summer classes at my community college that resemble the classes I need to take at the 4-year university. So, the summer for me is free.

That's the only reason I want to work. Or I'd take a few classes in the summer.
