And yet another reason to leave that state....
Not a fan of chrome on a (high) performance sports car. I understand the subdued nature and why people like it but if you're going to drive a GT3, let everyone know it's a GT3. The extroverted body, including the wing, is what makes it so cool to look at and drool over.

Does a manual GT3 have a different exhaust which is louder than the PDK version ? Or maybe it has to do with the unburned fuel causing pops and bangs ? I understand this process is harder to control with the manual. I think Porsche would have overcome this problem eventually, but given how poorly the manual version sells in California, they probably couldn't be bothered. But on the other hand Porsche could have increased how many manuals they sell by charging extra for the PDK, because "no extra charge for the manual" feels like a ripoff, which it is.

Around the 41-minute mark Jason Cammisa explains a "Drive by Noise Regulation" that causes weird gearing in the GT4/Spyder, possibly could be the reason for this ban of the GT3 Manual. Obviously with the PDK being an Auto versus a Manual and having an extra gear, the PDK benefits more and passes this regulation easier.

i dont think charging extra for pdk would would up the manual take rate. people spending this kinda money don't care... they want what they want. 99% of buyers dont' need $8k ceramic brakes yet over 50% of people ordered them. as for the sound. its probably due to the cruising noise on the highway. having a 7th gear brings the rpms down a bit more.

Soon in CA you will be getting fined for driving manually like in iRobot (using the steering wheel and gas pedal, and not autopilot)
On a real note, love the GT3 whether it is touring or not. Both incredible. I love the paint matched front end better on the touring and for a swan neck delete, the active spoiler on the touring is gorgeous. Only gripe is the chrome trim, as I didn't see an option for gloss black on the configurator. |

I have no idea why but ...meh. Is it just me or do all the 992 models look the same? Debadged i can barely tell a base Carrera from a wingless GT3.
Mark my words, in 25 years the 992 will not be....how do you say..... i dunno..... I think 997.2 and 991.2 will be the high water mark. |
