When does a model year start?
Only curious, does anyone know when a MY starts? I ask because I just saw a number of used cars, mostly from VAG and registered in Q1/2021, announced at the Danish "Bilbasen" as MY 2022 (no BMWs MY 2022).
Years ago it was "common knowledge", that the European (German) carmakers used the summer holiday to change their machinery to the next MY. |

It is whenever a manufacturer decides. BMW doesn’t start all MYs at the same time.
You can read the first sticky on this forum to get an idea of estimated SOP for various models and MYs. https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=901686 |

ive seen certain cars come out with the next MY in the spring.
All depends on the manufacturer and when they feel like rolling them out.

My car is a MY 2011 but the build date is November 2010. I believe it just changes over time with each manufacturer deciding the thresholds.
