Are you looking at going new?

I'd suggest not buying a 350z, as any younger guy I've known with one of those has wrapped them around trees and they have rather high insurance rates (my personal experience, not trying to generalize).

A WRX wouldn't be a bad option at all.

I know 6 people that own them. They are all women, and yes, they are all the S model. Doesn't mean that they are gay, just all the people I know that own them are women. So in my eyes, they are a chick car. YMMV

They can be ungirly if you get the right color. IMO that gunmetal grey looks pretty manly. Color with the Mini means everything. Honestly I'm not a fan of the exterior styling of the Mini, and I understand where he is coming from by wanting a 350z/evo/wrx.

If the Mini is a an almost absolute yes for you, then get him a color that isn't girly (grey/black/white if modded).

I love mine and so do the women. The blues, yellow and even the chili red are too "colorful" for me. I went astro black with black roof lowered on Eibachs and have had many compliments on it. Silver, black and gray are the only colors I prefer. Just let him put the hotties in it and watch his friends go ask their parents for one.

I have taken many road trips in it and feel perfectly safe in the city and the Interstates. The seats can get a bit firm on the butt after about 2 hours. Resale is sick and so is the gas mileage.

A Mini can be girly, but if modded correctly, it can look beastly! One of the most practical, best handling cars out there. It's a safe car too - my friend totaled his and walked away from the accident. Resale value is awesome as well. For $206 a month, I think it's a no-brainer! However, I do have a soft spot for the R53 with the s/c engine. The new R56 looks a little bubbly and from what I hear, is harder to do engine mods on.
