BMW Owner Jobs/Careers

Afternoon all,

In another thread it was asked how much we all earn; it was postulated that we must be on £/$99k+ to be able to afford one of these things.

I think that's a bit crass, sorry.

I'd far rather know, and talk about, what we all do for a living. This is much more interesting to me as we're from all over the world but are yet all connected by our ownership, love, hate, passion... of a BMW.

I'm thinking:
  • Sector/industry
  • Company size
  • How long you've worked there
  • Number of direct reports maybe
  • Rough location in the world
  • What you like about it (what does a good day look like)
  • What's your insider industry secret!
  • What you drive!!

Lastly, I don't give two figs how much you earn.

How does that sound?

Yeah, ok fair point.

Please don't post anything personally identifiable. Keep it all vague. No company names, no job titles, no pet names, no dates of birth, no names, no addresses, no ages.

Or do post all that stuff, I don't care.

---

I run a technology business 70 miles from London in the UK. We have less than 50 people working for us. Been there 20 years.

It's a great job, we provide IT services to loads of UK and European companies and I love getting out to meet new people.

Seeing how different companies use tech is great and keeps the job interesting.

Industry secret: The number of customers and end users that ignore basic IT advice, basic IT security advice, is shocking... like posting personally identifiable information on public chat forums.

I drive a G11 745e that I got a few weeks back, carbon black. Pics in the 7-series forum.

I'm retired and live in the Midwest region of the USA. I'm a man of leisure looking for love in all the wrong places, a product of misplaced desire rejected for good reason yet hopeful that during the last few good years I can hook up with the lady of my dreams. Oh, and I'd like to get a 540i.

I definitely like this thread way better than the "how much do you earn" one !

I live just outside of Toronto, ON - I work in IT Operations in a company which supports financial systems - roughly a size of about 150 people. Great place to work and a good work life balance even before the pandemic hit

Industry secret : Never use your debit cards in a unbranded ATM - 90% of the time there is a chance of a pin phishing event. And more often than not - the data is circulated before you've even left the door.

I'm driving a E90 335i at the moment - patiently waiting for the 2022/23 M340i LCI update to replace the old trusted 335i. I've almost pulled the trigger on the 2022 M340i but with the part shortage and no immediate need to replace my car - I'm banking on waiting it out till next year and see where we are with options when the LCI update comes out before pulling the trigger.

My wife has a 2021 X5 which she loves. Had several BMWs and Acuras over the years - never really moved away from these two brands.

Another person in the IT field here, but I work for a Manufacturing company. I manage a group of 12 full time employees in a DevOps setting. I also manage a rotating group of contractors depending on the need. I work with the larger corporate IT group to keep everything aligned.

The company is large, with over 10K employees, and international. The group I work with is based in the US. We make complex components that get integrated into other products that range from Space to Farms.

Being IT in the manufacturing world is an interesting mix. You get to bring innovate solutions to the business. You are also seen strictly as overhead, which means showing value is a challenge during cost savings time.

I am driving my first BMW, a new X3 M40i.

Sure, i'll play too.

Another tech guy here. Working on the design side of the house at a company focused on building development and devops tools for enterprise software.

Company is ~1500-1600 employees and is a fully distributed workforce across the globe. Actually starting here in a few weeks so I can't speak to how I like it just yet but I've been in the design/tech industry for ~13yrs now.

I've managed design teams of varying sizes - as many as 14, and at this next job i'll be more of a player-coach and have 2 designers. Super excited about it though; small teams are great.

Design/tech industry is great in general as long as you're in the area you want to be in. So many spaces you can specialize and focus in, and also the environment/culture of the company really dictates how things will go for you. I primarily work in enterprise/corporate environments.

Currently in a '15 M4 and also have a little '91 Miata that I putt around in when it strikes my fancy.
