Touchscreen is back
Touchscreen is back after 2~3 weeks of production of touchless screen on 3s/4s/X5/X7.
But BMW could just wait and put touchscreen on those cars instead of delivering cars without touchscreen to its customers and says: "here is $500, take it or leave it" Worst customer service/communication ever! |

I randomly checked several vehicles produced 11/16 - 11/17
There is no touchscreen deletion. Also confirmed by G05 users: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...869843&page=30 |

No, I didn't use mdeoder.
I use BMW's API to fetch vehicle option information. Do you want to know how? I can show you. |

I guess you must feel much smarter than me so you didn't even bother saying thank you, right?
But you are welcome. Quote:

You're welcome for sharing info that you should ask a dealer to pull data from DCSNet. And you're welcome for tempering enthusiasm about this touchscreen issue and your pending X5 order. ![]()

Loss of touchscreen workaround is already well underway. Looks to be fairly easily resolved.

Another touchscreen costs $2800+ so I'm not sure I would consider the issue easily resolved. I'm sure it could be found for cheaper but I don't think the cost will be trivial.

Irrespective of the cost of the part, the procedure to restore touch functionality, as well as backup assistant, is relatively easy. ![]()

Is this a comprehension issue or passive aggressive response?
I took time to do what i thought would be helpful to you. One of us is incorrect on this one. I'm happy if it's me, because for one I'd be thrilled if BMW restores touchscreen to production. Second, I cannot imagine how you'll respond to your dealer and BMWNA if you can't get a touchscreen in your ordered car.

If you cannot imagine, then don't. If you don't like that there are customers don't like the way how bmw handles this issue, you can always click the 'x' button on top right.
This post is not for you. It's for affected customers. Before they accept the touchless cars, they deserve to know the truth that some cars(if not all because I cannot check every vin) do have the touchscreen so they can make an educatd decision: 1. cancel and reorder 2. ask for reasonable compensation to cover retrofit (way more than $500) Quote:

You realize the method you're using to determine affected vs unaffected cars is unproven to be accurate every time? I'll tell you a quick story, when I ordered one of my more recent cars, the BMWUSA order tracking site showed 2 missing options and the wrong wheels on the car. This was after production completed a VIN was assigned and the car sitting in Bremerhaven port. A discussion with my CA, he sent me a screenshot from DCSNet that showed all options were correct. The car arrived and all was correct. If in fact affected models start showing up with touchscreens and some without, then your concern is somewhat more validated. Regarding the credit, the $500 doesn't represent true value of the lost option. It's debatable whether BMW is obligated to provide consideration equal to the true value of the loss. Why, because they're selling automobiles and all functions to make these "affected" cars a functional and safe automobile are there. The $500 credit more represents BMW offering legal consideration in exchange for you signing the document at delivery that confirms the loss of the touchscreen (and backup assistant). Consideration is required to make a contract valid and providing something in return for your acceptance. BMWNA historically stays out of the retrofit business. I doubt it would be any different here. Any retrofit would be an unsupported and aftermarket solution. Unfortunately. The good news is it's not terribly difficult to do. One of my concerns would be an increase in touchscreen thefts if demand is there for touchscreens to fit non touch vehicles. Trim and touchscreen removal is easy and for an experienced person can be done in minutes.
