The Perfect Car
Been thinking about this lately. Not the best at anything specifically, but decent at all.
AWD Front wheels powered by electric motors at each hub 30 mi plug in/hybrid electric-only range, regen capable ICE powering rear wheels, lsd, something with good torque down low. Wagon 4000lbs probably the most idealistic part, but with CF frame it has to be possible. Computer seamlessly blends front and rear drive, does all the good torque vectoring and other stuff. All the sporty stuff, wide tires and good suspension. DCT. Something like this could harness some amazing acceleration with the benefits of EV for many trips with the benefits of ICE when wanted or needed. I say this realizing it won’t ever happen, SUVs are where any resources are being spent and ICE is being designed out by almost everyone for these type applications… What’s yours?

^^^ 2 closest options: Toyota Rav4 PRIME (if you swap motors) = FWD (ICE) + (RWD) Electric, 42 miles all electric range or Ferrari SF90 (but it has 3 electric motors).
My version: no ICE, 4 electric motors at each wheel, ~4000Lbs weight, mid size battery (250 miles of range), good suspension, ventilated seats option, midsize sedan with hatchback. Pretty much BMW 440i GC with 4 electric motors. Last edited by Sedoy; 12-05-2021 at 05:21 PM.. |

There is no perfect car, by nature they can only do a few things well which will exclude them from doing other things well. I want nothing to do with anything high tech, the less the better.
For me this is beautiful and organic. It's fun to drive, has a big enough frunk for a weekend or a bit longer get away. When I'm driving it I'm not thinking of the other garbage. |

But I didn't want to turn this into a "best sports car", as people are doing above, just a "best all around car", something that you could drive every day, take to the trailhead, take to the office, go on a trip, take to the track, etc.

What you describe doesn't exist because even across the mushy middle we will all want something else.
On paper an M5 ticks all the boxes, 5 seats, fast as hell, comfortable, safe, sporty enough etc but you went the other way, off road and AWD. Maybe this is why Subaru sells so many lifted Imprezzas. |

For me the perfect car would be a Porsche 911. It literally ticks all the boxes: extremely fun to drive, unique handling characteristics, iconic styling, attainable price, showy in the right spec, luxurious, reliable, holds its value better than other sports cars, historic pedigree, etc.
My dream car would be a Ferrari for sure; but they are unattainably expensive, unreliable, and too costly to maintain. They are best left as a used purchase to tuck away in the garage 6 days/wk.

There's always the used market. 911s hold their value well, but even in this used car market there are CPO 991s in the $60-80k range. Find a non-CPO 991 or go back to the 997 generation and prices should be less.

RWD, AWD is acceptable if it is rear biased ICE/hybrid/EV, powertrain hardly makes any difference to me these days Maybe 200-300 hp, i am stuck in traffic anyways most of the time, and plenty enough to be fun and not terrifying when I can open the taps Attainable, around 40k or less would be awesome. I won't feel bad if i bin it Anonymous and reliable. Manual Wagon would be nice, but im okay with any body shape knowing our SUV driven market Below 3500 lbs in today's nanny laden cars is a win I have full control of how the electronic nannies will behave. It's my fking car, i don't need a computer to tell me how I should drive Should be 'fun', all the time, not just built to attain the fastest lap times. I mean it certainly sounds like I need a Corolla GR or GR86.
