Alfa Romeo Guilia Veloce
I think I've seen a few people that have/had Guilias, I'm wondering what you think of them? I just got a quote on an in-stock Guilia Veloce since I'm getting tired of waiting for my car to come in, they are offering $3k below MSRP (does that say something?). That puts a nearly $60k car close to the $600-range, quite a bit less than an M240, M340, etc.
Are they just Chryslers w/an Italian badge? Are they unreliable? Hows the drive?

I thought the Veloce was a V6?
I've never owned an Italian car. If it's going to be in the dealer every other week then it's not worth the hassle!

It's a very fun handling car but don't expect the power that an M240 would have. It's a 4 cyl with some lag down low but the turbos kick in around 2k RPM then she zooms. The Quadrifoglio has the Ferrari-derived V6 with 500+ hp, but it is RWD only and the reliability record on it is a gamble.
The Giorgio chassis is arguably the best of any 4-door car in the world. The way this car handles and steers is like nothing else. The steering ratio is super quick and makes any other car's steering feel lackluster. Decent riding too, it's stiff but not enough to beat you up over Michigan roads. The interior is nice enough, just try to get it in brown or red as the black interior is a bit drab. Unlike Maserati, I don't believe any of the interior fittings/switchgear are out of the Chrysler parts bin. I'm only 10,000 miles in (in 6 months), and I drive it pretty hard (frequently in Dynamic mode), zero unplanned dealer visits so far. This car is not the most logical choice on paper as its long-term reliability record, interior fittings, tech, and dealership network are a generation behind more mass market competitors. But this car is the emotional and driver's choice in its segment. From the uniquely Italian styling and interior design, to the lightning quick steering ratio with genuine road feedback, communicative chassis, and uniqueness factor of driving something less common with a very Italian vibe; this car certainly has its own appeal. By the way within the Alfa community there are two dealers that are known to be more aggressive with pricing: Alfa of Strongsville (Ohio) and Russell Westbrook Alfa (Los Angeles).

I always thought this thing had a V8, was let down when I heard one take off at a light. 500 HP from a 3 liter V6 isn't bad though.

There is turbo lag though, using Dynamic helps but it is there, as stated once you get to about 2000RPM it goes like a cut snake, spritely little motor. Interior wise, I have NEVER understood the criticism. They use knobs and buttons, you know, like we are always whining about as car guys. The screen is small but integrated. We have the Lusso so more luxury than sport so maybe that's why i feel our interior is fine vs the reputation? |

Depending on which car you're coming from, the turbo lag will feel VERY severe, or you won't really mind it much. I daily an m340i which does a great job of minimizing turbo lag, and it's very quick, so when I test drove the Giulia 2T I was shocked at how much turbo lag it had. I kept checking to make sure it was in sport mode because of how severe the turbo lag felt compared to my m340i.
The handling though was really nice, it felt better than my m340i, steering feel was better. If you don't mind the severe dip in power and throttle response compared to an m340i/m240i, then the Giulia is a great choice. But it really should be compared to a 230i/330i. Alfa doesn't make an m240i/m340i competitor.

Alfa makes the four pot veloce and the ferrari like and based Quadrafoglia. The former is like a 330i and the latter like an M3.
The Veloce gets excellent reviews but with a reliability caveat. I had a neighbor (he just moved) who had several BMWs and an Alfa Giulia. I asked how he compared them. He said he preferred the way the Giulia drove. He got his from the local dealer (Fiat dealership) and said they had two Alfas for loaners. This was before the pandemic and parts shortages. Compared to a 330i, it is very comparable and may be better if you can live with the reliability issues. But, IMHO, there is no comparison to a BMW with the six pot (340, 540, etc.). |

It's a matter of personal taste though. I think the interior feels very Italian especially in the brown spec I got it in, and I adore the way the car drives, so overall I'm a happy camper.

We have a 2019 so the "old" interior, again I am dumbfounded by the loathing for it. Maybe because it is Lusso so top trim? Never sat in the base so I don't know what it is like.

Giulia's are excellent driving cars. A fantastic chassis, excellent steering, and great ride quality, definitely the most driver-oriented of its class. Reliability of the 2.0T models is not a big deal, have a friend with close to 80k miles on his Giulia Ti Sport and he's had no issues. The interiors are also plenty fine, and even can be optioned with Napa Leather door tops and seats which are typically reserved for E-Class/5er/A6 class of car.

FWIW, I drive a 2018 F30 340i ZHP w/MPPSK and 6MT. The car I had ordered and have been waiting for 3.5 months is a 2022 M240i that Im getting tired of waiting for.

I've looked at M340's at a few different dealers. The prices I've been given on $62-63k cars were $920 - 1050/mo. Now that is a ripoff! Thats why I took the M340 off of my list.

A 62K m340i has a residual of 57% and I think the MF is still around .001. You'd be looking at a 915-930/mo payment on a 36/12. |

I'm paying $699 for my 2018, so $930 is just a step too far for an M340. I can get a new M3 with BMW select (balloon, not lease) for $990.
