Only a matter of time for the M3/4. Likely the same fate for the next gen.

I've been expecting the next gen M3/4 to be full EV so a hybrid/PHEV instead is actually very welcome news.

The new M5 is going to have the same engine as the upcoming XM. A full on EV M is years away. Publicity released EV batteries I doubt would provide a M range of more than a 100 miles.

Is it possible for there to be a hybrid and gasoline model. It's almost sad to see all of my dream cars turn into hybrids and EV's. I'm not against it in any way. I'm just a little hurt to see all of my childhood dream cars go away from what made them what they are.

The rendered picture looks good. Hopefully they don't change to much from it. Last thing I want is another giant grill. Although, it would make my current M5's value skyrocket. Lol

This is the inevitable. I said this in another thread. That the next gen M3 will be EV.

The later part of the decade it'll transition into a hybrid. Then buh bye noise.

Complete silence is what car makers are going for.

Hybrid is a nice compromise.

Use the Electric to cruise around town and in traffic and use the gas when you want to put the hammer down.

You could end up with twice the MPG with very little down side. What's not to like?

No one near the 740hp mark with zero lag is going to be bitching about performance. Especially with the next gen M5 wagon set to come to the US. Then consider most other manufacturers all killed or have plans to kill their V8s…

With CAFE standards so high we all should feel lucky that the V8 stays around. New engine means at least 6-7 more years with a V8 in the brand. The next gen M3/4 will definitely be a hybrid as well.

700hp would make it feel slower than the F90. It needs at least 750-800hp to maintain the hp to weight ratio assuming it weighs as much as a panamera turbo s e hybrid (5200-5300lbs)

If they add rear wheel steering, the car will be plenty capable on the track and keep up with the F90s.
