I've been a hi-fi hobbyist for over 60-years. I've had large JBLs with 15-inch woofers in my home since I was 3-years-old, and still have the originals today. My main system in the new house has JBL 4345 Studio Monitor 4-way speakers with 18-inch woofers, powered in bi-amp form with Crown PS400 and PS200 amps, fed by a Soundcraftsmen Pro-Control-Four pre, Pro-EQ 44, Emotiva DAC, and Ashly electronic crossover. I have several other systems with more Soundcraftsmen pre's, Eqs, and amps, Crown PSL-2 pre, Crown Studio Reference-II amp, Nak Dragon cassette, B&O straight-line tracking tables, JBL/Urei pro amps, Oppo disc player, two more Emotiva DACs, a collection of a dozen JBLs from L1, L3, L5, L7 to 4412A, L112, L150A, C37/030, 250ti, and a couple of DCM TimeFrames 500 and 600. And several spares of many of these irreplaceable items, just in case!

So like many other I've been a hobbyist for most of my life, well over 40 years. I got into tubes a long time ago with an odd ball Tuner and Amp. Madison Fielding with a set of Klipsh Heresy's. I moved up to Synthesis Amp and Zu Omen speakers.
My current system is a MacIntosh MA7900 with Tannoy Kensington GR speakers and a Bluenose Bellavista turntable. |

I never did become a high-end audiophile. Life got in the way. Now that I can afford to be one, my hearing is shot. |

During my career I repaired a wide variety of electronic gizmos, including stereo system speakers. I found it amazing how often I'd pull a speaker grill, only to find dozens of pencil holes in the cone. Other times, I'd find the speaker cone completely separated from the driver. In cars, I'd find where only the driver was left, the sun having completely disintegrated the cone into dust.

I has an awesome B&O in my RS7 that had tremendous high end sound. My new M550 has an HK that I am not thrilled with. If anyone knows if there is a good way to improve please let me know. My wifes upgraded Meridian in her Rover is really great on the low-end and you can play audio dvd's, what a great sound. I have Deep Purples Machine Head, it sounds incredible

I have a good friend here in the Houston area that owns Wathen Audiophile. He does Custom Tube Pre Amps, Power Amps and custom speakers studio monitors & Subs. My current system consist of a Cryo Tube Pre Amp, a 250x250 Power Amp pushing 2 sets of their Reference .5 monitors sitting on Reflex stands, a 350x350 power Amp pushing a set of refurbished Klipsch KLF 10's. turn table is a Music Hall Classic with a Audio-Technica VM530EN/H dual moving magnet cartridge. I just finished adding the Power Sub in the first pic. I push it and the Klipisch's with the 350. last pic is our standard Friday night chill on the couch. all components sit on IsoAcustics vibration isolators. TV surround sound system is a Denon AVR and MartinLogan speakers w/ 10" Sub

I enjoy my audio and have a decent setup, but thank god I never became an audiophile. It is an endless trip down the rabbit hole of decreasing returns on investment and snake oil
My setup is a mixture of things I picked up both new and used: Marantz pre-amp, Boston Acoustic amp, Onix Rocket and Emotiva speakers, Elemental Design subwoofer, Oppo Digital BluRay/SACD player, Duel turntable

Not a real audiophile so nothing really special for the new house but, we find it respectable. For downstairs, Martin Logan in-ceiling speakers inside in kitchen/den with Sonance outdoor speakers on the porch, all powered by two Sonos amps. Upstairs in the media room, more Martin Logan in-ceiling speakers, JBL subwoofer, Yamaha RX-ASA Aventage AV receiver to go with the Sony VPL-VW325ES projector.
The Martin Logan speakers were put in by the previous owner, I find them acceptable for the music we play downstairs via the Sonos amps for now but I might upgrade the ones upstairs once I have the new equipment installed later this month and have had a chance to hear them with the new receiver and sub in the media room.
