Time for something new....selling the Cayman
love this car and is by far the best handling car I've ever driven, but I think it's time for something new.....thinking of trying to get into a gated manual R8.
Unfortunately the one that sparked this crazy idea was just sold yesterday was hoping it would still be there until I got the funds together....want to be prepared next time another one like that one pops up so it's time to sell the 981 Here is the ad if anyone is interested https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1302985 |

Man I dunno, it always costs money to change cars and that one was sorted, not to mention you just got it. If you're gonna change it better be seriously different.

Missed my base 718 so much I ended up getting a GTS 4.0. You’ve got a lovely NA flat six, basically the original 911. I’d keep it.

I had a lot of fun in the 2.0t and loved how it drove and sounded. It is actually quicker than most people think and there are stage 1 tunes that will get you to 360hp or so if you do that sort of thing. But because of the small engine of the 2.0, it felt so much more like a race car, light and nimble, very responsive. There is no engine difference between the the GTS 4.0 and the GT4, and tuners are able to safely raise the limiter and power output to match or exceed the GT4. |

R8 vs cayman is tough one
I struggled with it for a while and in the end I chose a brand new GTS 4.0 over an R8 you really have to drive an R8 to see if it's for you the gated manual is not for everyone, I personally prefer slick mechanical porsche manual, but to be fair I've only driven a few gated r8's and so perhaps it would have grown on me I think that r8 v8 gated money is 981 GT4 or 718 GTS 4.0 money so it's a tough call an R8 is a very different experience and used R8's can be very different in the way they drive when I was seriously searching for one I drove a 2012 and a 2014 both gated v10's and both with 30000 km, and they were vastly different cars, the 2012 felt much tighter, faster and sounded way better than the 2014 first step is to somehow drive a gated r8 though one for sale or turo, you need to do this to know... |

Just as long it remains a mid-engine

seriously tho, if I had got a manual 981 CS I would have kept it.... But...I think it's human nature to always want to evolve and climb to a higher level...you gotta have asperations I'm actually starting to look into getting back into another Cayman, manual of course, since the R8 I had dreams of was sold recently. Going to Porsche of Ontario tomorrow and test drive a 981 CS and a 718 base back to back and will have a full report on my thoughts on the two. The 718 is in a color I really like... [QUOTE=SoCal_NSX;28956191]haha....that was exactly what the wife said when I brought up the R8 idea
seriously tho, if I had got a manual 981 CS I would have kept it.... But...I think it's human nature to always want to evolve and climb to a higher level...you gotta have asperations totally normal to always want the next best thing, my uncle was into boats and called it 2footitis, always wanting a boat that was 2 feet bigger But what you might find is that the 981CS in manual is so good that it will be tough to find that next best thing that was definitely my experience when I first drove a 981S in 2013 I was absolutely blown away by the car and had to have one and then after I got one, a 2014 Cayman S in manual, I loved driving that car like I've never loved a car before or after, couldn't get enough of driving it for the first six months but then of course I got used to the Cayman and the carswitchitis kicked in and i starting looking around to get that feeling I had with the cayman again and I've test drove and also actually bought all kinds of cars over the last almost 10 years and never got that feeling again tried aston martins, jags, 911's, bmw's, corvettes, mercedes, audi's, and now I am back in a GTS 4.0 which is basically the same car with a little more power the 981S in manual, for some of us, just hits all the marks so well, just the right size, beautiful, an amazing manual, naturally aspirated powerful motor with amazing throttle response and sound, wonderful handling, somewhat practical, rides decently it's just such an amazing package that it is hard to find something better good luck with the test drive, but my call is that you will much prefer the 981CS, the flat six just adds so much to the experience, for some of us |
