Best Buy Deal of the Day - Blu-ray player
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218022588970
Sale is for today only. I have this Blu-ray player and it kicks ass. It would kick even more ass if I got it for $229.99. I got it for $299.99 when it came out 2 months ago from Circuit City because Best Buy wasn't going to have it for 2-3 weeks after it's release date because they were still trying to unload their stock of the older model. It's the Panny DMP-BD35k. If you read CNet at all it's their 2nd ranked blu-ray player behind the PS3. http://reviews.cnet.com/video-player...in;contentBody If you don't already have a blu-ray player I suggest you pick this one up at this price. It's incredible. I'm kinda jealous

I heard blu ray is failing. Folks are sticking with regular DVD and video on demand.
I like the picture of blu ray but the cost of movies at $25 or more is rediculous. Personally I tend to rent HD movies on demand for $5.99 since I rarely watch one more than once.

$25 for a movie isn't horrible either. Don't get me wrong, buying a new DVD the first week at $14.99 is nice but blu-ray is better and will pull through. This just means I won't go buying every blu-ray movie I kinda like, I'll actually have to really like them to make the purchase it. They'll shape up once they can lower the costs soon. $29.99 normally and $24.99 the first week won't cut it. I see them lowering to 24.99 normally and $19.99 the first week to bump normal DVD's off the market in a year or 2.

My point is the average consumer does not care which is why the blu ray sales have not been good. A DVD is fine for most. When movies are down to $5-$10 then we will see more buyers. Most parents buy DVD's for kids to watch and the kids can't even spell blu ray. The parents just see a movie costing 2-3 times more. http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/10/20...y-sales-in-q4/ http://tech.blorge.com/Structure:%20...killed-hd-dvd/ http://www.trustedreviews.com/home-c...n-Forecasts/p1

That is a sick deal. Almost to the point where I am going to purchase a Blu-Ray. I've told myself to wait until it gets around $150 for a good one. Probably should just pull the trigger....or maybe roll the dice and wait until the post-Christmas sales??? I could probably get the same one as an opened item for around $150 after Xmas. Splitting hairs, I know.

That is a great deal for a great BR player. Its the economy thats hurting blu-ray. People are just not buying it that much but it is a great format.

Just wait. The price will continue to go down as it does with all electronics. When it gets into the $100's, then i'd buy one.
By the way, Blue ray movies are priced around the same as regular DVD's. Not sure why anyone would complain about that. I really think the economy, those $1 movie rental machines, and the ability to download movies or copy your friends DVD has hurt Blueray sales. That being said I plan on buying one because when it comes to epic movies like "Dark Knight", i want to feel as if i'm there.

^ That's a good point about the RedBox $1 rental machines. I haven't bought a single DVD since those came out.

If you are referring to my post above, it should not be. It's good until this Wednesday and they have it in stock.
I tested it all the way up to credit card processing part and it worked OK. However, Dell adds S&H and sales tax so the final amount is more than $199. |

My old roomate had the sony blue ray that cost $399 from best buy earlier this year and the time i hit the power button, and the eject button, it seemed to take forever. And the load time took forever as well. Is this still a common problem with all blue ray players or have the manufacturers improved the start up times?
