Audi= VW Tiguan
MB GLK looks like the older Toyota Rav4. I like the MB the best of the two. I would consider an X5 diesel or the GLK in a diesel.

The Audi Q7 looks really nice and has a ton of features, but price is up there as well as gas mileage. X5 is nice too, but the price is high as well. I Don't like the X3 at all.

I have a Q7 for daily driving. I like it better then any SUV BMW has to offer. In fact I liked it better then Cayenne S that I drove for a week even though its the same chassis.

Q7 might just be the biggest daily driver I've ever heard of. I absolutely love the Q7, but it just seems to be so damn massive.

And uneducated reply and totally wrong, the Q5 is based on the new MLP platform and has it's engine and quattro system from the new A4, where as the VW Tiguan is based on the VW Golf/Golf Plus and uses the Haldex AWD system with a transverse engine mounting. So far the Q5 has meet very favourable reviews, beating the current leaders (Freelander2 and X3) with ease. Most are reporting that it's the most car-like of SUVs currently on sale and that includes the mighty X6 with it's X-Drive technology, so it is clearly a drivers car among SUVs.
I haven't seen one myself but from photo shots the S/Line with the 20" RS4 alloys looks the business and with that 3.0TDI engine it is not short on performance, accelerating to 100km/h in 6.6s. If/when it gets the option of Sportdiff as is available with the S4 it will make it the king among SUVs, well until the new X3 arrives that is. |

GLK brakes are soft
The GLK is the Merc version of X3 but done right(as far as looks) Cornering was slightly worse than the x3 and the brakes were aweful. Other than that it was a contender for me. Oh those wheels in the GLK pic are a parts option here in states and not in sports package option.
Q7- dont like the looks and it's too big for me. |

Styling: Q5 > GLK. The GLK is horribly ugly. It's sinfully ugly. Horrible front, bland rear, wtf-sides, etc. The Q5 is inoffensive, but boring. The rear is ghastly. The taillights are weird and, in combination with the humongous reflectors, too much. Saw one in person and there was nothing noteworthy.
Interior: Audi > MB period. This applies to these two as well. MB took the blocky theme too far. The Audi's looks more upscale too. Overall: I'd rather not have either, ever. But if I was to pick, I'd take the Q5.

I'm very much partial to MB so I would go for the GLK, preferably a diesel but I don't think it's available in North America as anything other than a GLK 350 for now. How is pricing on the Q5? I was surprised to learn that the GLK is cheaper than the X3 which is really showing it's age.
In terms of cabin tech, the GLK comes with the latest version of MB's COMAND system while the Q5 comes with the latest version of Audi's MMI so there won't be any compromises in either case there if you have any interest in that kind of stuff.
