Rennstand anyone?
Has anybody tried these rennstand jackstands?
It saves you from trying to find the front jack point which is difficult to see and the front of the vehicle is low. It’s much easier to Jack from the side. There is an adaptor for BMWs https://rennstand.com/ |

I use Jackpoint Jackstands. They seem totally indestructible and the vehicle is 100% stable on them. I haven't yet had a reason to jack up the X5 yet (it's only 4 months old), but I have no reason to suspect they will work differently with the X5 than they did with our old 2016 X3 and my daughter's 2020 X1.
These RennStands look interesting, however. Looks like they make it easy to raise the car to different heights. That's kind of a PITA with Jackpoint Jackstands: you have to purchase additional pucks to get the car higher, and those pucks aren't inexpensive. |

Looks convenient but does it really only have two legs? Seems unstable & dangerous unless you are supposed to leave the jack under it too, but what if you need to jack more than one spot?

If your car is super low then you might have to lift at another point to raise the car slightly in order to get them under it though... The feet are wide (wider than it looks in the pictures) on each side so they distribute the load much the same way the 4 legs on a traditional jackstand does but it is actually better. A regular old jackstand with 4 legs is unstable if any of the 4 legs is not level. The rennstands also allow for some angle between the front and rear foot so they settle nicely when lowered. The legs are angled and actually have most of the weight handling between the top and the posts rather than the top pin. The bottom pin is supporting the weight but there is a pin in each leg so it is very strong. If it can hold up a tesla model S it is no problem for an e90 or even e70... I have these and the torrin big reds with an adapter block. I find myself using these now just because it is easier to get both sides in the air. Before I would have to use the front lift point or just rely on the chasis rigiditity to jack up a whole side of the car to get a jackstand under the front points. I might get another pair to get all 4 corners in the air. Note that they seemed to change the jackpad adapters to be a billet aluminum rather than steel that were too tall. I ordered those and returned them. I plan to drill add a stud to normal set of aluminum jack adapters that are readily available on amazon for $15 a pair. I also owned a quickjack for a couple of weeks but it turned out that the basic model from costco is not wide enough to reach the e70 jackpoints making it pretty useless.... They have a wider version but I think the rennstands give more room to work under the car and they are easier to store. Overall it isn't that much slower to jack the car with rennstands compared to the quickjack because you have to setup the pump and lines on the quickjack. -Rich

Clever idea, but at $200+ each I think I would be making my own.
There isn't $60 worth of metal for all 4 jack stands, it would also give you the opportunity to make those bases a little wider and more stable.

A lot of cars no longer have any dedicated or safe jack stand points or secondary jacking points, they are just designed to be used with a lift or with a jack only to change a wheel…this gets around that.

The reason I’m looking for something like this is, I jack the car in the rear subframe and use jack stands, but when I move to working on the front of the car, I have to back the car into the garage so I can fit the jack in the front jack point and it’s difficult to see where I’m jacking.
Jacking on the side is so much easier |

It seems great for two jackstands. I think it would be unsafe if all 4 corners were lifted. I agree it is a nice solution for just quickly lifting up half of the car. I have left the car up for weeks on the rennstands, they seem more solid for longer projects.

Ending up getting the AGA jack rod and I’m very impressed. It has the following advantages:
- you don’t have to worry about jack clearance -you don’t need any special adaptors - it’s small and easy to store -it’s affordable only $110 I called the company looking for a local rep they said they are working on finding out but they reduced the cost of shipping as it was initially expensive coming from the west to east coast. All in all, I’m happy with the Jack rod |

I just ordered one too! I was rotating tires on my daughter's X1 yesterday, and this would add an additional level of safety since I typically just jack the car from the front high enough to get the rear wheel barely off the ground, then rotate the wheels front to back. I tell myself that I'm not really under the car when I'm doing this so "it's OK", but the reality is that my legs are occasionally under it when removing or reinstalling wheels, and my head is in the wheel well when I'm measuring brake pad thickness.
I found a "SAVE10" code online that worked. Shipping is still expensive imho, but I can certainly justify $120 to try this out (that's what my total came to with shipping and the 10% discount). |
