370z
Has anyone driven the new Z? 332hp for $30k? I just read the C&D article and they gooshed all over it. I'm really interested in how the auto rev matching works on a manual transmission. Has anyone taken one of these for a test drive yet? I wonder how the computer knows when you are about to downshift versus upshift manually to synch the revs?

Ah, where was this car when I was in the market for a cheap but quality sports car. I think Nissan is headed in the right direction with this baby.

Rev matching feature only comes in the Grand Touring which is the best package basic models will have to do it themselves. I actually saw about 3 days ago she was a beauty !!!!

I was at the Nissan dealership yesterday. Seemed like all their 370Zs came standard with the 7-speed automatic transmission.

I just looked at this video: http://www.nissanusa.com/zcoupe/?int...s/transmission
Apparently there are sensors on the shifter that identifies if you are up or downshifting and then factors in the gear, vehicle speed, and a few other variables. This is brilliant innovation from Nissan. |

I don't give a shit what anyone thinks, but the rev match is the dumbest shit ever, if you can't rev match, then don't get a manual. and what happened to something called engine braking?

ummm, once you have it in gear after switching gears with a rev match won't it still engine break? Otherwise you will be "clutch breaking" Or am I wrong about this...?

That's good you don't care what anyone thinks, because most people disagree with you. Nissan was also smart enough to allow the feature to be disabled for folks like yourself. And what does rev matching have to do with Engine Breaking?

Ok you are right, I may have gotten carried away, but it is true that cars are getting too sophisticated and soon we will all turn into bad divers with all of these aids. As to the engine braking, when the car rev matches, it doesnt remove all of the power instantly to make the transition smoother I believe, so that engine doesnt brake the car like it would in a regular manual. I could be wrong, but thats what i've felt when I have driven cars that rev match.

Bad drivers cut off people and make driving dangerous. How does automatic rev matching exacerbate that?
