No more coding for next gen cars
A heads-up for those who are interested in next gen car -
A few thread over X5 and iX forum has concluded that coding is no longer possible for most functions (except few cosmetic ones) for SP22+ cars, such as iX, X5/6/7 LCI. It is highly likely next gen X3/X4 will follow the suit. |

Next gen X3 G01 (MY24) is most likely staying with ID7; confirmed by multiple dealers. The G45 X3 (with ID7) should be MY25 starting production in Q3/Q4 next year.

It has everything to do with ID7. The architecture of ID7 doesn’t support extensive level of code signing; that’s why a lot of (hidden) features were able to be coded in, since the framework was already there. With ID8+, the architecture was built on cloud based code signing and server side authentication. Not only that, but the features not included with the car weren’t even left in the framework and modules were locked down further.
When you say next-Gen X3, I gather you’re talking about MY23 (still G01, still ID7) and most of the coding should be supported. If by next gen you actually mean G45 with ID8, then I agree, most coding features we have now won’t be supported. |

SP21+ cars get the cloud coding framework. As far as we know, all SP21+ car come with ID 8 (or 9?). SP18 and earlier car does not get the cloud coding framework. SP18 car includes most cars with ID7 and some ID8 - notably, current 3/4/i4 comes with ID8 but they are built with SP18; thus they can still be coded (bimmercode actually supports i4) |

Based on the reports from multiple owners in iX and X5/6 forums, it's very likely that the new G45 is also going to become coding unfriendly...

This is very dissapointing, if correct then we have to live with auto start stop with no way to disable it ? Without pressing sport each time ? This is a big problem for me lol

By itself, that neuters a good number of features I've got coded into my LCI 2023. The loss of the headlight coding by itself is a showstopper for where I do my night driving when I travel. The rest of my coded features are all "nice-to-haves" but they are VERY nice-to-haves. The drivetrain in the current M40i although not perfect I believe rivals anything else at that price point and would be hard to beat.
I need to get off the stick and either order another G01 and hope it has less rattles than my current car, or start shopping for something else, before the G01 takes the new model introduction depreciation hit. |

Man, this shift to cloud-based coding with ID8+ is a real bummer for those of us who love tweaking our rides. Losing out on coding options for things like disabling auto start-stop without using sport mode is a huge letdown. For now, it seems sticking with ID7 might be the only way to keep some of that flexibility. Let’s keep the info flowing if anyone finds new workarounds or tips!
