Bmw autohold

I have 2 BMWs

1. 840i 2021 idrive 7. When the autohold is turned on and I'm driving, once I press on the brakes and the car comes to a complete stop the autohold is automatically activated. (Which is correct) (1 step process)

However :

2. On my 330i m sport pro 2023 idrive 8, same scenario but when I hit the brakes and the car comes to a complete stop, I still have to press the brakes abit deeper for it to function (2 step process) - in my opinion it shouldnt be like this.

Is this normal on newer bmws? Have they changed the coding system? Or are there software updates? Can this be fixed from 2 steps to 1 step.

l asked my dealership and they were not aware of this situation and they are going to ask bmw Germany, it's been 2 weeks of waiting.

Any thoughts? Thanks

I have only turned the Auto H on once just to see how it works and seems to work as you described on your 8 series. I didn’t care for it so have it turned off now.

The auto hold on my 2022 Z4 acts like scenario #2. I have to give the brake pedal another deeper push after I stop.

That’s odd. On my 2023 Z4, it’s #1 (iDrive 7).

Unfortunately, the brake pressure activation threshold is calibrated on each vehicle differently for some reason. The advantage of 2 step activation is during parking. Where you want the vehicle to start rolling and don't really want to press gas in close proximity to other objects around.

The (2) process (2 steps auto hold) should be a better way and further improvement from original function I would say.

It can be coded.

That's strange...Just wondering whether on idrive 7 it's the 1 step process. And on idrive 8 it's the 2 step process.

After I come to a complete stop I need to give my brake pedal an extra push to engage it, could it be different on the 2023's?

2019 first scenario, 2023 second. The second one is annoying!

Maybe. But my 2021 M340i worked the same way as my 2023 Z4.

There’s not a setting somewhere that can adjust this, is there?

If there is, I haven’t found it yet.

Having sold Mercedes-Benz for many years. I always preferred their brake hold of if you want it you just push the brake pedal in to engage. I really like having the hold feature. But in the BMW their is no coasting or idling forward a bit. its either stop or go.

As a side note though I was told by someone that used the insurance companies OBD reader driving monitor the dang insurance company noted they had aggressive braking from using and engaging the brake hold feature on a MB.

I have a 2022 G80 M3 (ID7) and both the auto hold and the auto stop start activate without any additional pressure on the brake pedal. It's infuriating and I really wish it was a 2-step process.

If anyone knows how to code the 2-step process with Bimmercode, let me know!

No way am I ever using one of those insurance monitors, just to save $6 a month.

2021 Z4, the auto hold (can) be a 1-step process if I want it. When coming to a stop push brake harder…. One swift motion with pressure will engage the auto hold.

If coasting to a stop and very light on brakes it will not engage.

Works the same way as wife’s CX-5.
