I'm almost 65 and got carded recently buying non-alcoholic beer. Some places just have rules they won't bend.

Yep. They treat it just like it's normal beer here. If the cashier is under 21, I have to wait for them to have someone else scan it. It's ridiculous.

We have a single liquor store in town. Doesn’t matter if you’re 80, they physically scan your ID. College town problems I suppose.

I read that some athletes, like cyclists, like non-alcoholic beer because it is an isotonic drink, which means it's absorbed quickly, like isotonic sports drinks.

And because it tastes like beer.

I'm not a cyclist myself but I know M_Six is. Wonder if that's why he is buying non-alcoholic beer? Because it is isotonic or if he just likes the taste but doesn't want the buzz. Or both? Or maybe it’s not even for him.

I personally would like the feeling of beer but I have a hiatal hernia and can’t drink it because the carbonation bothers me. I have to drink wine or spirits if I want that alcohol high. These days I prefer wine though I only drink once a week.

There are a few places in Virginia (it has happened to me in movie theaters and some grocery stores) where they need to scan your drivers license when you buy alcohol. The irony is that at the grocery store self checkout they don’t scan your license, and just type in a random birth date to allow the transaction.

I was told that in the movie theater it was to keep track of your total purchases, and make sure you aren’t buying extra for someone underage. Not very convenient when you want to buy two glasses of wine (yourself and SO) and they want to see two IDs.

Athletic Brewing Company (ABC) makes great NA beer. As close to the real thing as I've ever tasted. I've been drinking it since last fall, but I went totally NA on Jan 1 of this year and haven't gone back. Coming up on one year w/o alcohol.

ABC's Upside Dawn has just 45cal and 10g of carbs. Perfect for an after ride drink. Their Free Wave IPA is very tasty. I have a couple every night. And yes, NA beer is a good sports recovery drink with the benefits of an anti-inflammatory without the downside of the alcohol.

Did it have ephedrine or pseudoephedrine in it? Where I am at they are required to scan your license to get anything that contains it and they keep it behind the counter so the tweekers can't make Meth out of it. I say let them have it and let nature take it's course......

I give up booze for lent and usually skip the N/A beer, as I haven't really found a good one... Can't see paying $8:00 a six back for Odoulles... Will have to try ABC when the time comes..

ABC has a lot of choices. I love their IPAs. They also have stouts and lighter brews. Their basic lager is Upside Dawn. I get them for around $10/sixpack here.

All stores (grocery included) card where I live, regardless of age (unless you look like your 90). I asked once, grocery store told me they don't want to take any chances whatsoever as the penalties for underage sales are steep.

On the flip side, my DW was offended a few years ago when a store cashier automatically applied a senior citizen discount to her bill...because she was also under 50 at the time.....
