I don't think so. 170hp? FK that. My Civic Si will probably beat it.
0-60 6.3, 1/4 14.9. 197hp. The 135i will SMOKE IT. Unless you want great MPG. NOT. |

1) Haldex AWD instead of Torsen 2) Doesn't appear to have the new transaxle/engine configuration that is in the next generation A4/A5 that moves the engine 5 inches back compared to the front axle. (bad weight distribution) 3) 170hp/258 lb.-ft torque with just one turbo, with more peaky output, and a 500 rpm lower redline than the 123d 4) 0-62 in 7.5 sec. 5) Base Price may be as much as a 135i (35k) 6) Cast-iron block compared to the 123d's aluminum block 7) May or may not make it to the US Positives: 1) 44.3 mpg (same as 123d) 2) only 3020 lbs (A slight advantage on the 123d) nah. If I'm going to dream about a nice diesel car someday coming to the US, I'll still dream about the 123d. It is a much better car, and should be less $$ than the 135i, seeing that it is less everywhere else in the world it is sold. |

But I'm sure they aren't geared the same, so just comparing engine output ratings isn't that interesting. The 123d and 135i are the same way. Both are rated at the same 300 lb/ft torque rating. But there is about a 9% difference in gearing between the two. Consequently, the in-gear acceleration for the 123d is about 9% slower than the 135i. (based upon 50-70 in-gear acceleration numbers). And in 0-60 ratings, the 123d gets killed by the 135i both because of the gearing difference, and the lower redline that forces the 123d to be shifted twice from 0-60, while the 135i only needs one gear shift. So I wouldn't be surprised to see a the Audi TT 2.0 TDI getting spanked by a Civic Si, in a 0-60 race. But I would suspect that the TT might kill the Si in 50-70 in-gear acceleration. It all depends upon other factors, like gearing and weight. |
