Trade in Civic Si for 135i ???
I have a question on trade in value for my 2007 Civic Si sedan.
OK. I am going to trade in the 2007 Civic Si sedan for a 2009 135i. I will be doing this in 1 year or less. I went to Edmunds.co and appraised a 2006 Civic Si coupe with 16,000 miles. Its the same car and price. I figure in a year my car will have aprox 16,000 miles and mint condition. So should this be pretty accurate? Remember my car is an 07, so I appraised an 06 to get an example what mine will be worth in a year with 16,000 miles/mint. Edmunds numbers on a 2006 Civic Si coupe, 16,000 mi, mint. Trade-in value $16,100 Private sale $17,500 Dealer Retail $18,600 Certified $19,400. If I pay MSRP for the 135i manual with leather, sport pkg. comfort access, HD Radio, Premium Hi-Fi, dest, $39,850 do you think they will give me $16,100 ? That is what I will owe on the Civic Si at the time(March 09) The Civic Si new MSRP was $22,000. I don't plan on trading, a major pain ![]() 2009 135i MSRP $39,850 -$16,100 =$23,750 6.5% tax+ $1,544 Lic, title + $186 Civic payoff +$16,100 =$41,580 Cash down -$5,000 Amount to finance=$36,580. Do you think these numbers are possible? If BMW sells the Civic for $18,600 thats a $2,500 profit on the Civic, Plus the invoice on the BMW is $3,170 less then MSRP. Thats a total profit of $5,670. Or will BMW just wholesale it out to a Honda dealer for what they gave me on the trade? $16,100 Thankyou for any answers :iono::thumbup: |

Make sure when you go to edmunds to look at the Fair Market Value. It will be close to that amount. The book said that my trade in for the Z was 20K, but the fair market trade in was only 17,665. The dealer will use fair market value or auction value.....

With a KBB of 16,000 I'd expect a dealer to offer 13-14 on a trade.

I did the Kelley Blue assuming the car will be 2 years old, mint, and 16,000 miles trade-in value was $16,600. The Dealer retail was $21,500. I can't imagine getting offered $14k for a car that was $22k. The 2 year old Civic Si's I have seen are selling for about $19-20k now.

They won't give you "trade in" value because they won't keep it on their lot. They'll want to wholesale it to Honda dealer. Make a quick $1000 or whatever. Best to sell it on your own. You have time.

Just say its Jan 09, my 2007 Civic Si is 2 years old and has 16,000 miles and its mint. The kelley Blue book says true market trade-in value is $16,800. If I pay MSRP on the 135i, you all think they will offer me only $14,000.
My brother was a car salesman for 3 years and what I learned from him was when tradding in a car you go wholesale to wholesale, OR retail to retail. This means if you pay MSRP on the new car the dealer usually gives you more then the low trade-in value. And vise versa, Money off MSRP means low trade-in value. If I pay MSRP on the 135i they should give me at least $16,000. What do you think they will offer? |

"2009 135i MSRP $39,850 - Amount to finance=$36,580" And value of the 135i one month later? I'm afraid the rabbit's too big for the hat. Apologies for popping party balloons but that looks like a bad move, financially speaking. Jack |

In my experience, on a trade in, the dealer has ALWAYS offered 2000-5000 below KBB trade in.
That's why I usually sell a car privately instead of trading it in. Especially with a low supply, high demand car for the 135i, you have 0 room to bargain. They can offer you 13k, and you can say "well, then give me invoice" at which point they can say "No, demand is too high on this car. Why should I sell to you for that price when I can sell at MSRP?" Or, you could say "That's a lowball. Give me the 17k the car is worth, and you've got a deal right now." at which point they can say "The car isn't worth that much. I can't sell it for that much, I'm just going to wholesale it, and I won't give you more than what I think I can wholesale if for." You can walk out, and they won't care, because they'll be able to sell the car no matter what. I'm sorry to do any bubble popping, I just think it's unreasonable to expect to get anything close to KBB on a trade in to a dealer that can't CPO the car.

OK. I understand. That was what I was affraid of. I know I can sell outright for at least $17k. I just have to find transpertation? Maybe by next March 09 they might have 135i manuals in Alpine White on the lot. That way I can just go buy it MSRP. And possibly put down $7,000 instead of $5,000. I originally was going to get the 135i Alpine White, manual, black leatherette, sport pkg and comfort access. Now I have been adding options like HD Radio, leather, Premium Hi-Fi which adds $2,675. I loved the Coral red when I first saw it 2 years ago, and my son told me yesterday to get the Coral leather. Then many are saying the HD Radio is really clear. Plus I am an audio/video nut and would love the Premuim Hi-Fi. I just need to wait, payoff visa's and save BIG $$$. OH SHUCKS.
What options can I live without??? My bottom line on trade would be $15,000, is that possible. |

Another option is to just buy a $500 car to drive for 3 months.

never ask a question like that on a forum like this. seriously im not trying to put you down. but these are ppl that have high expectations for a car thats why we buy bimmers. asking us the value of a used honda is like asking us how much we would pay for a swift kick in the ass. i honestly think if you got the patience than you can get decent money for it. not know an amount. but if you want that decent money....PUT UP FOR SALE NOW
