Assuming the G45 gets unveiled next week as expected, when can we expect to start placing orders for one at a local dealer (in the US)?

I'm new to buying a BMW right after launch. Not sure how this usually works. I know G45 production starts in August, but I don't understand what this implies for the ordering timeline.

The allocations will be issued at the end of June/beginning of July. The order bank should open shortly after the reveal.

Thanks a lot for the info! Pardon my ignorance, but can you explain what it means for the "order bank" to open? Does this mean that dealers can start accepting orders right away, even though they won't get allocations / production numbers for another couple of weeks?

Yes, when a dealer takes an order and they don't have an allocation that can be used to fulfill that order then it goes into the Order Bank. Those will sit there and be matched with available allocations on a FIFO basis.

I would imagine the first month or so may be difficult but it all depends on the demand.

If you're in the US, most of the tracking won't apply since the vehicle is coming from SC and will transport via truck or rail.

Be sure to get your hands on the pricing guide and research all the options and packages. One of my friends like to joke that with BMW you have to pay for AM radio. There's a little truth to that, to get ACC in the X3 you had to buy the DAPP package for $1,700. There are a ton of resources on this forum you can search or ask if you have questions.

Once you do have that production number, there's a cool trick to monitor your build date and options (search for the "F5 trick"), spoiler alert sometimes your build date moves! Good luck with your orders everyone!

My local dealer has no allocations yet for the G45. They're expecting to get the first allocations in July. I'm currently waitlisted with them

Order banks should open soon. You can see it in the system (order entry), but it won't allow you to order yet as you get an error about the earliest production week.
