Picked up my 2025 X3 M50 today! - super early thoughts

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Picked up my X3 M50 today. Here's the build:
Brooklyn Grey Metallic
M Alcantara/Veganza
Driving Assistance Professional Package
20" M Jet Black Bicolor 1036M Wheels with All Season Tires
M Sport Professional Package
Premium Package
Super early thoughts:
  • I like the exterior. Sorry folks. I also like the G01, so not throwing shade, but I think the G45 is a natural evolution and the earlier models are going to look dated. The M50 looks better than the standard X3. The car looks great in both BGM and the new Dune Grey, which my dealer also had when I picked up mine.
  • My opinion on the interior is complicated. It isn't universally bad. In fact, if you accept the minimalism thing, it is mostly okay. But some parts of it are abysmally awful. Like criminal. I'm looking at the doors and the door handles and the incredibly cheap plastic where the door controls are. The seat memory buttons feel like a shitty kid's toy. I wouldn't be surprised if this is fixed by 2026 MY.
  • The M Alcantara interior is nicer in person than it looks in videos. I like it and am glad I got it. The non-woven dash is also nice.
  • There is a spare tire under the trunk liner
  • The car drives incredibly well. Feels poised and planted, engine has gobs of power, it is a proper BMW.
  • The "modes" are kind of silly and it won't let me automatically start in Sport mode.

tl;dr I like the exterior, the interior is mixed, the drivetrain & suspension are great. More later.

By the non-sensatec dash do you mean the knitted fabric?

Does the drive mode lock you into a certain ambient lighting color? Or is the one you set manually on the screen the one that can be on full time? i.e. does Sport+ force the //M colorway or can you keep it bright pink?

They seem to, yes. Sport is red, for example.

Only Personal lets you change the ambient color, but confusingly you don't configure the color in the mode preferences but rather it unlocks a setting in the Interior Lighting app.

I imagine BMW can iterate on this with software updates.

Whatever you get with the M Alcatara interior w/o the Sensatec "upgrade."

Looks like Veganza with M stitching. I like it.

I think that is the Sensatec option, as base textured soft plastic doesn’t appear to be an option on M sport cars, and the “luxury fabric” doesn’t have the stitching.

You are right, I misspoke:The upgrade everyone is complaining about is "Woven Textile Dashboard" not Sensatec.

To restate my earlier point, I have the M Alcantara interior w/o the Woven Textile Dashboard upgrade and I think the dashboard is very nice.

I spec'ed the 906M wheels (Jet Black Bi-Color) with All Seasons and I received Pirelli P Zero All Seasons. 255/45 R20 up front and 285/40 R20 in the rear.

Not sure what else these come with. Did I win or lose the tire lottery?

I’m a big fan of the Brooklyn grey.
Pretty much the same spec I have ordered here in UK minus the Driving Assistance Professional pack, but I have added the 21” alloys.

How does the lighting work in the G45 headlight unit with regard what look like LED’s a running down the side of the vertical DRL (the 30 headlight doesn’t appear to have these) ?

Also, is high beam and low beam now just via a single projection lens ?

congrats on the new ride! My impressions mirrored yours dead on... the exterior is fine... not my favorite but ok... drivetrain I am sure is very solid... and interior does feel criminal in certain spots... the window switches felt like they were straight out of a Civic and that is being nice.

those tires should be fine. your rear should be then 285 since they don’t have square option as far as I read so far. Definitely monitor wear on the rear tires as you pick up mi.

He talks about the headlights at the beginning of this video. Not sure if that answers your question though to be honest.

Thanks. I can see the additional LED’s illuminated, just not sure about their purpose, but I’m guessing it’s not to meet regulatory light output requirements, as they don’t appear on the 30.
