iDrive 9

Just picked up my X3 M50 yesterday afternoon, so I haven’t had a lot of time to really do a deep dive into the iDrive, but I did notice there aren’t any presets for the radio. For the regular radio and the Sirius radio.

There’s a way to save favorites, but it’s not easy to navigate to while driving.

I think BMW messed up. Hopefully they will fix it in a software update soon.

I do wonder if the folks that develop these touch based systems actually do it whilst driving straight roads, let alone twisty fast roads lol. 😂

Fighting gravity and taking your eyes of the road, or arguing with the car via voice is very distracting.

they have probably never driven 6mt on back roads while trying to turn on radio, select the station and then adjust the temp. used to be very simple and right in front of your right hand. you could even do it with gloves on.

My biggest gripe is changing auto headlights. You press the button next to the steering wheel for it to open a menu on the touch screen to turn auto lights on/off. The physical button could have performed the lighting action!

100% ageee

hate to say it but considering extremely poor drivers ed in this case I would not mind regs to keep basic functions easily controlled such as hvac, wipers, turning signal, lights etc.

we have folks with dl that can’t even turn headlights on and now the human-machine interface gets even more complicated

I guess BMW thinks a car is a mobile phone, and I do find it odd that using a mobile phone whilst driving is illegal here because it’s distracting and therefore dangerous, even in a fixed mount.

Hence, it seems entirely sensible to employ a similar touch/visual interface whilst driving…… There is a legal loophole that needs addressing.

EU NCAP is being revised to make sure we have buttons for key items/tasks, but then, I feel there needs to be a little more:

https://www.politico.eu/article/euro...or%20switches.

I agree - but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

Does anyone know how to save an artist and or song as a favorite using SiriusXM?

It says you can do it, so you’re alerted when the artist or song is playing, but I can’t figure out how to do it.

I believe it’s different than the other favorites area that just show your favorite stations.

Hi, can I just ask about the interior lighting setting.

1. Can you turn it always off?
2. Can you set your preffered color and intensity so it doesnt change at all (if you switch profiles or from sport mode to comfort mode?)

thanks

BMW telegraphed to everyone months ahead of time that they were getting rid of buttons and certainly follows the lead of other models that had already followed suit!

Just be glad that (to my knowledge) the G45 is the only iDrive 9 BMW that still maintains the physical iDrive rotary controller!

With the deletion of buttons, BMW wants you to be heavily dependent on the in-car voice assistant. You should start each request with "Hey, BMW...".

Have you tried, "Hey BMW, save the current station to Favorites"?

1. You can’t turn it fully off, only make it very dim, as far as I can tell from playing with the settings.
2. Yes, for the “Personal” drive mode, which is set as the default mode when you start the car. You can pick other modes as the start mode too - not “Sport” though, unfortunately.

Go into the display settings for the gauge cluster. There’s an option for no tach at all with minimal view and just speed, speed and “power” and speed and RPMs.

On my X3 M50 in Personal Mode I only seed speed and speed+power as options.

can’t be 40% at 4k rpm if your peak pwr is at what 6K rpm?

it is probably based on selected gear, speed and rpm inputs. very weird though …

Well that's weird. I have all the display options in Personal mode on my M50 when changing things up using the steering wheel controls. My Personal mode is set to Speed/RPMs right now. Heck I may go out and see if I can record a little video to show y'all how.
