Mine works well. I usually gain charge with CarPlay with Apple Music and navigation going. Would check with dealer.

Just general things a thick case can interfere with charging speed.

I have a genuine apple case , specifically made for wireless charging.

But it’s very hit and miss in my G01 charging tray. I have to keep moving it to ensure blue charging light stays on.

The G45 wireless charging is a major redesign compared to the G01. It now has active cooling to prevent overheating the phone.

Mine works fine for my Pixel 8 Pro. I find the “you’re using the wireless charger” notification that pops up annoying, though.

Agree. And, observed it seems to charge better in cooler temperatures.

I never used the old charger in the idrive 7 cars. It was in such an inconvenient spot and wouldn’t work unless perfectly placed.

The g45 one is such a massive improvement. Easily throw it on when you get in the car. Always works.

I have an iPhone 16 pro with a dbrand case and I’m gaining charge with music and navigation running. Charges much faster if I use the bmw navigation.

Same issue here. I have an IPhone 15 Pro with the thin FineWoven Apple case.

40 minute drive, car and phone show phone is charging the whole time. No apps in use or screen on. Charge dropped 2% by the end of the journey.

My G08 iX3 BMW charging pad sucks as well but at least it does add power. Same phone and case being used….

Apple throttles wireless charging for any non “MagSafe” charger by 50%, so you’re getting 7.5w instead of 15, and then running apps in the background and maybe using Apple CarPlay (idk if you do, but a lot do). Charger can’t keep up. The USBC is 45w.

I wonder if that throttling doesn’t apply to the iPhone 16 pro. I’m pretty sure I’m getting 15 watts; which isn’t great but not terrible. 25 watts if you use a MagSafe charger at home.

My iX3 charging can keep up. Odd that the new X3 is a backward step from an already poor design in the last generation cars…

Wireless charging varies by iPhone model, charger output, and type Qi v Qi2, Magsafe Certified v Magsafe Compatible AFAIK.

Also not sure how much of an impact the age/condition of the iPhone battery makes. I assume a newer battery will perform better.

iPhone 15 Pro charging tested in this link and appears to support 15w with Magsafe Certified and Qi2, but only 7.5w Qi or Magsafe "compatible" if I'm reading it correctly - https://www.chargerlab.com/charging-...iphone-15-pro/

Does BMW publish the specifications and power output of the G45 wireless charger?

The usb c cables throughout the car are listed at 3 amps. Didn’t see listing for the wireless charger but I assume then it would be at least the 15w charger.

I guess an alternative is use a USB C power only connection.

I assume power only won’t affect CarPlay, whereas data and power USB wired did in the past, as BMW moved away from wired to wireless CarPlay. I don’t know if that has changed with ID9.

There is 12v supply in the armrest that could be used with a USB adapter, but not sure if there’s a cutout for running cables from the armrest storage area.
