I Miss the Acoustic Glasses
Unfortunately, the G45 still doesn't have acoustic glass available from factory in the US market.
I recently spent four weeks driving the Macan and GLC, both of which have insulated glass on all four windows. The difference in cabin noise is incredible—night and day. I've owned several X3s, starting with the E83, and none of them have offered acoustic glass from the factory. I spoke to the dealer, and they said I could order it for $3,000 (parts and labor), but it's only available for the front two windows since BMW only makes it for the front. I just don't understand why BMW hasn't caught up, especially when all their competitors are offering it.

One doesn’t have to be a genius to realize it’s a cost cutting measure. Life is about choices. The geniuses at BMW decided to not include it in the new design.

Given acoustic glass is fitted during production at Spartanburg for other regions, it seems bizarre BMW US wouldn’t continue to offer it as a chargeable option in the US, as it generates additional profit from optional extras. |

I've also noticed that unlike in my F40 120i, there's no rubberized insert at the bottom of the glove box and I didn't see any cutouts in the central armrest to let cables out, so whatever is plugged into 12 V socket, stays in there if closed. My overall impression of the interior was good though, however I've ordered M50, so I'm biased The iDrive controller will require getting used to (no longer tilts, moves instead), but glad it's still there. |

Is that a US or SA build do you know ? Also, did you notice any change to the M euro version with regard to finishing touches like aluminium M door sill protectors, puddle lights (non illuminated grille) etc ? Last edited by avi66; 10-26-2024 at 05:38 AM.. |

Sure they probably could have offered it as a chargeable option, but at some point they have to limit their number of options. Otherwise, they become like Porsche and offer a thousand options. Less repeatability and less consistency equals less efficiency. Less efficiency equals higher cost and less profit. Less efficiency slows down the assembly line. Mass production is a science all unto itself. Henry Ford was onto something when he said sure, you can order the model T in any color you want just as long as it was black.

There is no difference for the basic stuff between the markets anymore. The German M50 I saw 2 weeks ago didn't have doorsills or puddle lights. Only lights you get with the M-Sports Pro package in Europe are the welcome light carpets and the iluminated grills. Only difference will be the combination of the feature list for the base price models and the combined packages in different markets. For example rear climate control is standard in Germany whereas it's optional in the US. The only feature I found, which is not available in Europ but in the US was the space saver spare tire instead of the tire mobility kit. |

There are no cars available in the UK yet, hence can't check here, so little things like M fendor/Wing badges, door sill plates etc. There appear to small difference in the UK configurator images to the US configurator images. A simple question, and I'm no speculating anything will be different here, just looking at the difference. Last edited by avi66; 10-26-2024 at 06:53 AM.. |

There is zero indication of any trim level having puddle lights and I havn't seen any build code for this. I would suggest the puddle lights where planned initially and the doorboard had the cutlines for the closeout left over because there was no need to change the manufacturing process for the part. In the end the puddle lights ended up on the cost savings list, like they did it on the G01 LCI previously. |

The poster suggested without the illuminated grille option, door puddle lights are fitted instead, which seems plausible, as the carpet light is an option included with the illuminated grille here. The speculation in that post was about the possibility of cars with the illuminated grille option also having a cut out and harness to retro fit door puddle lights as well, but this is not my question. I'm not sure if the small difference shown between configurator images is erroneous, or if there will be an actual difference. The small M wing/fender badge being one detail, beyond the local reflector regulation differences. Last edited by avi66; 10-26-2024 at 06:59 AM.. |

The car has no M door sills (I think they’re available as M Performance accessory in aluminum or carbon fibre finish), I haven’t looked for puddle lights specifically. But it has M seat belts (those with M color stripe). |

The M belts are a nice touch, and again it’s different to what’s standard or even optional in some markets even on M spec. The devil is in the detail, and even small things can make a difference. |

It only says acoustic glazing - it may mean just a windshield, which is acoustic as standard even on Kia Sportage, not very premium is it?
Q5 can have front side windows acoustic GLC can have front side windows acoustic NX has acoustic front side as standard XC60 can have front AND back acoustic glazing All of the above come with acoustic windshield as standard. New X3 is a huge dissappointment in this regard - and BMW already feels it. You can easily get 25% discount in the EU already, you would usually have to wait 2yrs from launch to get to that level. Its a sign that sales arent great. My guess is that they will bring LCI for MY27 which will fix most of the concerns. Powertrain, gearbox, xdrive are all great - its just the interior that is an incredible let down and simply not worth even the discounted price. Unless they've decided they cannot compete with Audi & MB anymore and they will position themselves around Mazda/Hyundai/Honda. There is a chance this is just a temprorary mistake, not the overall direction - F30 was cheap as f... in the interior but G30 is great. Last edited by srekal34; 10-31-2024 at 05:50 AM.. |

I think more recently BMW marketing has started to employ politicians, and I’m vary wary about what it claims. I seem to recall the G45 being pitched as a more luxury oriented product during late development, when model range info was released, but if anything, it’s the opposite. The original group press releases was more specific - https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...42377EN/618958 Last edited by avi66; 10-31-2024 at 07:10 AM.. |
