al-Zarqawi Killed in Raid
Looks like we finally managed to catch him this time, he has had some close calls after we missed him in Al Qaim, IZ.
I won't say how we identified the remains of course. I was waiting for the Iraqi's to announce it during our press conference so I could disseminate it out. It will likely hit the major networks within the hour. |

Congrats to US Special Operations Command, the CIA, other coalition forces, and especially the two Viper drivers of the US Air Force involved in today’s victory!

We still forget we haven't done squat about Bin Laden..for some reason I think there's much more then meets the eyes (Saudi oil tide with Bush...etc)

On the other hand Bin Laden remains elusive in the areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The major battlefield for the war on terror is in Iraq so this is where most of the intelligence assets are located. Pakistan believes he is extremely sick and rarely ventures out so trying to find a person who has fanatical loyal subjects will be a extremely hard task. However we can close to killing Ayman Al-Zawahiri because he is still moving around in the area. |

Good thing that he was finally found. But remember that one dies and another leader pop ups so it doesn't really solve anything out there imo

Three ways taking al-Zarqawi out makes a difference
Politically - I think that because of his involvement in the insurgency and anti-Shiite activities that his demise will be important during this very vulnerable time of Iraqi government formation. The sooner that government gets weaned, the sooner we can get out of there.
Psychologically - It's important to the morale of our troops as well. My cousin is in Special Forces busting his ass trying to kill or capture insurgents and victories like this and tangible results are always positive. Recently he took out some beheaders, IED makers, and some people who worked with 'Dr. Germ'. He was wounded a few weeks ago, but he's trying to push the rehab schedule so that he can be out with his unit and not miss any missions! Operationally - I think that catching a mastermind is also a big deal because while it's true that there are lots of radicals, and that there are lots (OK, a decent amount) of brilliant people, there aren't very many brilliant radicals, and it takes a while for them to develop their own skills and infrastructure. My prayers are with all of you guys overseas. |

THANKS TO THE TROOPS FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet it was a sad day for you dean. and to those who don't think killing this evil person helps... I really like the example above, that was great! but saying this doesn't help is like saying we should not put murderers in jail because another will just pop up. |
