SyncroRev Match on the 370Z
The SyncroRev Match feature included on the sports package of the new 370Z sounds pretty sweet according to the reviews I've read. I'm guessing this feature is software driven, so I wonder if this is something that BMW could ever offer with future firmware revisions. The 370Z offers a switch to disable the rev match for those who prefer to heel-toe on their own. I imagine a menu could be added to the on board computer allowing you to disable/enable the rev matching. Those with iDrive could probably set one of their Favorites buttons to perform this function as well. If this were potentially offered by BMW Performance, I know I would be in line for it. What do you guys think?

Everyone that tried it out loved it from what I read. Its funny because they were raggin on before they used it.

Sign of the times, I think people should embrace technology. What would have happened if F1 drivers said they only wanted to use clutches :iono:

Technically you still would be doing your own downshifting, just not having to match the revs on your own. Granted I enjoy using the heel-toe method to rev match when I'm downshifting, but I realized I'm not always very quick with it. I supposed more practice is needed. I still think the SyncroRev Match would be handy for the track.

I rather go to racing school, I think we rely on technology a bit to much... eventually technology will give out like a battery dies..

Just curious why my post was moved. I was wondering what people thought about this technology being offered/retrofit on BMW's.

Bring MSDOS back. I like to configure my own config.sys and autoexec.bat. Screw OS setting my virtual page files.

I drove one last weekend. The auto rev-matching worked OK in street driving conditions, although I kept forgetting it was there and did the H&T thing anyway. I'd like to see how well it works on track, where the speeds are higher, and the downshifts are done during heavy braking.
Overall I was struck by the noise and vibration from the engine. Rather coarse sounding. I guess I've been spoiled by the relative refinement of BMW 6's. The handling felt very tight and responsive, although it was hard to really push it on a test drive in town. |

^ What he said. I get a certain satisfaction from heel toeing and its keep my driving lively. Down the road some years we probably won't be able to purchase straight manuals anymore, as they are slowly being taken over by computerized dual clutch systems that can shift faster than any of us could dream of.

I'll do it myself, thanks. It's just like hill assist.....some people need it; some, like me, don't.

I wouldn't mind having it on the car, as long as it can be easily turned off. Stuff like this is nice for a car that pulls duty as a fun car AND a daily driver.
When I'm going to lunch with a client in the car, I'm not thinking about rev matching, or enjoying driving in general, I'm just trying to get where I'm going. |
