Lotus Exige S
I was looking at used cars on the web and was amazed how affordable these cars are. You can get them for about the same price as a used M coupe. I would not trade my M for it but if I needed a track day special it would be hard to pass one of these up.

Yeah they're selling in the 40's.
Great looks, handling, and performance. For track use, definitely one of the best buys out there. For daily driving... some courageous folks may be able to handle it. Wow, $36,000 buy it now for this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...|39:1|240:1318 |

^^Nice but that is a non supercharged Exige... most can be had for mid-30's. I test drove a Exige S last summer for a possible weekend fun car and it is like a magician's trick getting in and out (and I am not a huge guy...6' and 180), but the handling was spot on and definitely loud and raw and very sparse interior. Lotustalk has some great info and these cars are not without their problems, all that said though I still may pick one up someday but not meant for 99.9% of people out there.

I looked at those too!! I really wanted to get the lazer blue for a while. But then I thought I'd look like the biggest poser driving around in a $35k that is supposed to look like a $100k car. A little TOO much attention for me personally, as it would be my daily driver. They are cool looking cars and come in fun colors! Another reason I didn't get one was because I prefer more of a balance between the performance and luxury too. The interior is, in my opinion, sparse. I like the wood grain and all that stuff.

I love those cars.
I had an elise on pre-order back a few years ago before they were state-side, but unfortunately after waiting a year and a half for the car I just said screw it and took my deposit back. In hindsight I'm kind of glad since I would have been pissed after the exige came over as well.

Hey, give her a break. She may not be as spartan as the rest of us (no white knight).

They're toys. Beautiful, wonderful toys. Wish I could afford one, but it would be about luxury item #10 on my list so it's likely to remain just a thought.

The Elise is obviously a focused track day car. That being said, I'm very hardcore and would love it on a daily basis. My dream car would be an Ariel Atom. Igress/egress is difficult, but with some practice it's not so bad. You have to sit on the side sill, rotate your legs into the car and then slide into it. Exit the same way, lift yourself up onto the side sill and rotate your legs out. If the roof is off the Elise just stand up hoping your shoes aren't too dirty.

I seriously considered trying to daily drive one before I bought my 135i. I decided I just couldn't do it, and would probably wind up buying a beater to drive back and forth to work and run errands in. Since I had limited parking at the time, and wanted something comfortable enough to do long road trips in I passed.
I'd still like to have one for the weekends though. |

Sure. They have Toyota engines after all. But their body panels are the flimsiest little things ever invented and replacement parts are not cheap. On the plus side, there are no electronics to speak of (the radio is optional), so there's nothing to short or break or fizzle.
