Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 vs Infinity G37
Interesting how the opening paragraph completely disregards the 135i... "The list of six-cylinder sport coupes that actually matter is a short one. Let's face it, until now it's been BMW 335i and Infiniti G37. And then, about two weeks ago, Hyundai dropped a bomb. A big one."
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...cleId=142826#5 The shootout that I want to see is the 135i vs the Genesis Coupe 3.8. Considering the BMW comes with rear seats, I'd say the big price difference isn't quite as big.

I'll be dipped in shit and rolled in breadcrumbs, you're right. I always thought the 37 only had 2 seats like the 350Z. Still, given the lighter weight, the 135i is a better comparo than the G37.

"Hyundai is considering a new calibration, but there are cars going on sale that incorporate this 3-second power intervention, a feature that can punish drivers at engine speeds well below redline. Some people won't notice it, but to others it could be a deal breaker in the purchase of a Genesis 3.8 coupe." A "driveline protection" feature? Sounds like its not a very robustly designed drive train to me.

uh. if the 128 is a bit faster than the 3.8 gen despite 70+hp missing, i dont see how a 135i is better to compare than a g37 considering both lay the smack down on the 3.8 gen. and when a 128 costs about the same as the 3.8 gen coupe, well...

The natural competitor to the hyundai genesis is the Mazda Rx-8. Performance is nearly identical except the Rx-8 gets 14 MPG, other than that I think thats a good comparison on performance and price.

Any good G37 vs 135i reviews...I don't think the genesis can hang with the 135i performance, wise

The V6 is as low as 5.5 right now w/o premium fuel. So it's not up there with the 135's 4.7 0-60 but it could be quicker in the corners. But the 2.0T with just an increase in boost might prove to be a competitor.

There are some Genesis Coupes on ebay already.
I just looked at a few of them and a few 370Zs... does anyone else think the Hyundai outclasses the Z? The Z has it beat on performance but it looks so awkward and the interior is pretty bad.

not really epik, but you sure do seem to try very hard to make the gen coupe seem like the second coming of jesus on multiple forums. why dont you just get your gen coupe already and be done with it...

Yeah and you seem to be hating on the best affordable, tuner-friendly, RWD sports car in the last decade on multiple forums. What are you even doing on a auto enthusiast site?
Or is it just because it's a Hyundai? What an ass.

why are you so defensive. the gen coupe is hardly what everyone has been waiting a decade for. another entry is great, but i still wouldnt discount new cars like the 128, s2000, 370z, mustang gt, impreza wrx, solstice gxp, sky redline, mx-5, camaro, challenger r/t, and the surprisingly affordable lancer evo. you come here with guns blazing as if none of these things exist. so please, dont be an ass. ill be happy to create just for you a hyundai genesis coupe appreciation thread so that we can all beat off to it. just let me know.

Oh, dear god... yes those cars are... lol forget it.
If you really can't understand why Hyundai's new offering is such a big deal by now... no one can help you.

Epik, I'm with you on the new Z's interior; I think its pretty bad though the car mags love it's "modern" appeal. Me, I'm a much more understated person and appreciate subdued, elegant design. I'm not necessarily looking for value for money; I'm not poor anymore and I won't pick an option just because it is the absolute best value for money otherwise I'd be in a Saturn. I'm not such a fan of the Hyundai because of the 7/8ths part. Believe it or not, I looked long and hard at a Mercedes C350 Sport and the new Cadillac CTS; both those vehicles have incredible interiors. I went with the 1er because it had the engine I want though my dream car is an AMG Merc. Power and luxury.

If you owned a G37 would you be rattled by this news?

Well I think the 128 is a great car with surprising performance. Actually one of my dream cars is a Merc too, the SL65 AMG Black. But even if I could one day afford it, my opinion of it will probably have changed by then.
Nah, I'd go into denial mode. Apples to oranges. It's just a Hyundai. Can't put a price on quality or whatever. There's no need to bring yourself down lol. Then just go on to dreaming about ISFs and M3s. Of course those cars will be heckled by modded Gen coupes as well.
