im considering getting a LR3 as a replacement to the ML320. Ive seen that it was motor trend truck of the year i believe. The reviews ive watched on youtube have been all positive, thus reinforcing the idea of purchasing the LR3.

Now i know about all the talk about reliability, expensive repairs, cost to maintain, problems, etc... with Land Rover vehicals in the past, but is the LR3 different?

I will not be doing serious off roading but i will use it once in a while around the hills of central PA. The majority of the time it will be a people hauler, grocery getter, carpooling to the bars/restaurants type deal and daily driver.



Ps. please dont tell me to get an X5, H2, ML, GL, RX, etc.. im not interested in any of thoes. i just want to know more about this particular SUV.

with that said.. Does anyone have personal experience with this vehical? or any other good intel i should know about it?

LR3 is a dam good suv. If u can afford it I'd go for the range rover supersport or the amazing Acura RDX

My neighbor tells me that the brake jobs are expensive and more often than others. Around 2k or so. They are real cheap right now.

No, save your money.
Use Google search. It knows more about LR3's than we ever will (Or bother to tell you about).

I really like Land Rovers as well, but they have been nothing but near the bottom in terms of reliability. I think in 2005 (not all that long ago) they were only beat by KIA as the worst in reliability. Not to mention the high cost of repairs.

As much as I like the styling and go anywhere attitude, I don't know if I could bring myself to buy one even if I had the money.

The LR3 is a great tow vehicle and decent offroader. Reliability is better with the newer LRs due to all the money that Ford poured into them after buying them from BMW in '02 (it took a few years for all the money to trickle down to production models, as the first Ford owned LRs were still designed and engineerd by BMW).

Tha being said, like owning a BMW 7 series or S class Mercedes, these are not Camrys. If you want an appliance look elswhere. But I'd rather have a LR than any Lexus or Nissan SUV.

I have a supposedly unreliable Range Rover. In the last year, it's cost me $50 in repairs (a spark plug wire set). if I need to replace the brakes, it'll cost me about $400 for rotors and pads and sensors. I love this truck, moreso on days like today coming in to work in the snow where my 7 series would not be a viable method of transportation... hehehe)

Two of my neighbors had LR3's. One still has it and hates it. The other one got so fed up with it being in the shop all the time he got rid of it after 9 months.

I know 4 people with them. None of them are in the shop very often at all. Mine never goes into the shop. I've had 3 Rangies, and they have been no more trouble than my BMW.

I think most people here simply talk out of their ass.

Considering Land/Range Rover is at the bottom of the list only to Kia usually in reliability studies I beg to differ. For every 3 happy people with a Range or Land Rover I can find you 62 that got annoyed with them and peaced out. And you say no more trouble than your BMW which is a 740i... far from reliable too. Ironically enough you compared them

My 740 has almost 170k on it. It had 143k on it when I bought it a few years ago, and other than mods, I've barely spent any money on it at all for repairs. It's a completely reliable daily driver.

As I've said, I spent $50 in repairs on my 2001 Range Rover HSE in the year I've had it.

I belong to a number of Range Rover clubs and have owned 3 Range Rovers. I compare to my years of actual experience, rather than what you do, which is compare to the gas coming out your ass.

Until you have any experience, you can kindly STFU.

Yeah, but the LR3 has that PITA adjustable suspension and other gizmos that people have already established would break

You drive a couple of the most widely known unreliable vehicles made and your only defense is that YOU personally have not had any problems with them yet every study and 95% of people including people I know that still have them say they are garbage...

Oh yeah, I owned an FD RX-7 with 530whp and it was the most reliable car I have ever owned. I only put $50 bucks in it and it has over 200,000 miles on it with the original apex seals.

Junk... I personally know someone who has had 2, thats right I said 2 purchased back because of lemon laws... You couldnt give me a LandRover... exscept maybe one built back in the 70's

i had an 06 Range Rover HSE. I loved that truck but would only own another one if I could afford to have a second car. I felt like I was always driving my parents spare SUV bc my Range was always in the shop. It wasnt so much that it was unreliable, but it could never be fixed right. i dont know if that was an issue with the dealer or my car. but nothing beats driving a land rover. sure it wont handle like an x5 or cayenne but u get this special feeling driving a rover. cant really describe it
