Some Interesting Military Videos

I just figured everyone likes to see what the news doesnt show you... Here are some videos posted by my friends from our last deployment to afghanistan. Now you guys know a little more about me and my brothers.

Tell me what you think

A worker was shot at one of our firebases, while attempting to medivac this local national.. One of our guys were shot, luckily he was just grazed and you can her him say he will be fine and he is staying
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlXmFxVbf0E

Our firebase was attacked a few times this day so we were givin the order to do "a show of force" which means basically that we are not playing with them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnsvPTT1ISM

This video is a remake of the song that was written about the 173D in Vietnam, these guys made it for us during last Afghanistan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtycoVADp1U

This is another video About Battle Company in the Korengal Valley
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAW_yK1ZoEw

If you would like to see more you can go to youtube and look up Battle Company, Korengal Valley. You can also check Vanity Fair, NY Times, Good Morning America, Nightline... There were articles about Battle Company 2/503D in each of those publications.

Thanks for your support... Many of us feel people have forgotten about us who served in Afghanistan... receiving responses like "Hey at least you weren't in Iraq" Our company of 130 soldiers were in a estimated 750 or more firefights in 15 months...

That is only an estimate because the platoon I was in hit 75 before the 6 month mark and I stopped recording the TICs (Troops in contact) for my squad. Everyone has their numbers that was one of the numbers I herd our last LTC throw around. All I can say is that I love what I do, and I will never serve with a better group of soldiers, friends, Brothers...

Thank you to everyone who put their life on the line over there. I don't think enough people say it.

At 22 I will definitely teach my future kids the sacrifices our armed forces have made.

God bless you all.

I don't get what everyone is firing at in the second one - the 'show of force' thing?

Unfortunately, because of the tactics of the ACF "Anti-Coalition Forces" they pop up shoot at us and run. A show of force is where we shoot as much as we can in the suspected areas of attack to either kill the enemy, scare the enemy from using those locations again, or let the local populous if they decide to join the enemy that is what will happen to their village.... The following day after the show of force... the enemy reported they had 3 casualties.... Realistically do we know who killed them "soldier wise"?.... no... but somewhere in the shooting 3 enemy fighters were killed so technically it was successful... After that day we didnt get shot at for about a week to 10 days, which was pretty good for us because our platoon had been taking contact on light weeks 3 to 4 times in a 7 day period... and on our worst days, sometimes 7 firefights per day.

In that video there were 2 enemy positions and the village being shot at and mortared was a staging point for enemy activity.

I hope this clarifies the second video..

Ahhhh - thanks, that's better. I couldn't figure out why people were launching rockets at what appeared to be remote barren hills....seemed like a waste. But I see what was happening now.

Blue skies, brother. Former 1/504 here (ETSed '94). Have a buddy from back in the day who shredded his ankle on the jump into N-Iraq. He's out now and living in Schweinfurt. Says the 173rd was good times.

Keep your eyes up and head down. There's tons of support for you guys back home. While I don't miss the BS, I do miss the folks I worked with. While I get a taste of that on the swat team and with my current assignment, nothing touches what it was like at Bragg and the places we went. I envy you on so many levels. I'm lucky to have three or four guys I can really count on like I could then. Press the fight and good luck. Airborne.
