Turbo Four for the 1 Series M Car sounds good. Dont know about the Turbo Six for the M3 though, what is the difference between a 335i then?

I'm assuming it would be 350 hp or more, lighter and tighter, more focused.

"Willisch said it would not be based on the 3.0L twin-turbo six proliferating throughout the BMW range, including in the new Z4."

Then what was the difference between the E46 3 and the E46 M3? Both were NA inline 6's. Plenty of difference, it turns out, just as there will most likely be plenty of difference between future 3 and M3 engines. He said it may not even be twin turbo, so obviously, a completely different engine.

i assume they are going to use v6 with larger turbos or maybe intercooler upgrades and so on, because 335i seems pretty stacked itself.

Why would you twin turbo a 4 cylinder?

Makes me glad I got mine when I did. I've had turbo cars before, nothing beats the sound of a high performance V8.

Yuck.

hello turbo lag and heatsoak.

guess ill be sticking with my e46 or an e90 m3.

Naturally aspirated high revving engines and,RWD, available with real manual gearbox's was the thing that made M so unique.

Good read. I doubt that a V6 will be seriously considered, but it makes for a nice story, and will keep competition guessing. I suspect that they have a successor to the N54 in the works for the F30 3 series, and that could very likely form the basis of a new M engine also.
