Moving to L.A.--Question

I am contemplating moving to Santa Monica, and would most likely be working in L.A. Can anyone give me a good idea of how long that commute may be?

Which part of LA and what part of Santa Monica?

A common misconception on the part of out of towners here is to estimate the commute time based on the distance. There are many other factors involved :

1. Day of the week/ Time of the day
2. the degree of difficulty to access freeway
3. Direction of travel (with or opposing the heavy traffic - it shifts during the day)
4. Your degree of knowledge and comfort with taking surface road in lieu of freeways when everything comes to halt

and many more I can't think of right now

That being said, if all conditions are normal it should take you anywhere from 25-30 minutes to get from Santa Monica to Downtown LA through I-10 Santa Monica Fwy.

During my 22 years of living in this town, this has only happened may be 4-5 times though!

Allow an hour anytime after 8:00 a.m. if you don't want to be late to work. The sooner you leave the house the better.

I lived in Manhattan Beach for awhile. I don't really know So-Cal, but I loved it there

you think i'm kidding

you'll spend at least an hour on the 10 and if for some reason you have to take the 405 then forget it, just park the car and walk.

last thursday i was on the 405 from around el segundo to the 10 interchange. l got on at 2:30PM and I off 4PM.

you should not commit to living anywhere until you're certain about where you'll be working, trust me.

so true +1. first find where you are going to be working and THEN find a place to live. for me to get to my house to school which is 3 miles away takes me about 20+ on a freeway and around 30+ taking the streets, but the side that i am usually on isn't that bad.

YUP...good advice... I stay in KTown and still takes you a good 10-15min to get to downtown... this is like 1-2 miles away ok, freaking streets are so bad around here... half of the time you're dodgin pot holes and the other half bad traffic... Poor M3 I need to move out... i can hear the engine crying to be let loose on stop n go traffic...
