Project Car ideas
I am thinking of picking up a nice Project car to work on. I will either make it a straightline beast or a road track car. I want to hear what suggestions people have considering the used car market is at its best for purchasing something. Some different ideas I have are:
91-97 Acura NSX E46 M3(HPF turbo kit potentially) C5 or C6 Vette EVo/STi Let me hear some other ideas. What are cars you have worked on in the past for tuning and how easy was it or hard?

Vette. Straightline monster and killer track dog. Probably the most affordable to purchase and modify.

There are some pretty wild E30's out there.... You can put a whole shitload of power under that hood, it'd be light as hell, and no one in their right mind would expect it....

Hands down the C5 is the biggest bang for buck IMO. It's been out long enough that there are tons of aftermarket parts available to make it a 1/4 beast or a track day monster. Take your pick, or have both!!
I don't think you'll do it for less money (and achieve the same results) in anything other car.

e46? have you considered e30/e36? both are so much lighter and smaller and would make much better track cars than any e46. you can pick up e36 M3s or 325 turbos for <10k all day

The NSX is very nice and reliable for a semi-exotic. but the engine bay is really tight, and I wouldn't want to risk the cost of repairs on the aluminum chassis if anything were to ever happen to it. the E46 M3 is a also a very nice car, but for the money, you just can't beat the performance and potential you get with a vette. Had one for a few years with a GSR engine swap, coilovers, integra brakes, etc. It was very light (2150 lbs) and was truly a fun little car that surprised a lot of people at the track. it was great until the thieves got to it. :-/ |

I like all the comments. The HPF kit for the E46 M3 is great but so expenisive! Plus, it doesn't have a V8 engine in it. I like the looks of that car and the NSX. The NSX has a few nice turbo kits. In Vegas we have Factor X motorsports. They have done raceproven technology for time-attack events with the NSX. It is a great car but you really have to love it. It is pricey to fix other parts on the body or engine bay. The TB/Water pump is about 1800 bucks to do for maintanence.
Now the Vettes are nice, good sounds, nice $/mod/hp numbers and it can do drag races or road tracks. My last visit to Spring Mountain Ranch had lots of Vettes out in about. They did very well on the track. A Z06 is a killer out there. If it is a C6 Z06 than watch out. Right now I am preparing my wife for the next car purchase. She hates me now for bringing this up. I would rather just keep my 335i Dinan'd out and move on to another car. That sounds good for me.
