My prediction is that the UAW will become very powerful from this and Uncle Sam will recoup and profit on their investment.

First bailout = success then fail
Mitsubishi = fail
MB = fail
On it's own = fail
USA/UAW = epic fail

I'm surprised more people aren't pissed about this whole thing.

They gave Chrysler several billion dollars out our pockets under the premise that we can't afford to let them go bankrupt. Now they're going bankrupt anyway and they're taking another 8 billion out of our pockets.

regardless of where that money went, it would still have come out of our pockets unfortunately

If we were going to give them 8 billion after going into bankruptcy, maybe we should have let them just go bankrupt from the start instead of throwing away billions more. Oh wait, we couldn't afford to let them go bankrupt. We needed the government to save them. Well, they went bankrupt anyway and took a lot of our money with them.

What if things don't turn around for them in a few months? They're still a huge company and changes take time. Doubly so when you consider the time required for them to develop and produce new products. Now that we have a stake in their success do we start throwing billions more at them if they can't turn things around in time?

I can only think (in horror) of your monthly payments to cover the horrible residuals.
