!!!! Ford sells more cars in April than Toyota!!!!

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/01/f...l-than-toyota/

Quote:
What's this? Somehow, the natural order of things in the automotive world has been upset to the point that Ford (129,898 total units) has outsold Toyota (126,540 total units) in the United States in the month of April. For those keeping track of such things, this is the first time in over a year that the Blue Oval (consisting of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury, but not including Volvo) has moved more machines than the mighty Toyota.

Normally, posting a 31% decline in sales compared to the same month a year earlier wouldn't be cause for celebration, but that drop is actually considerably smaller than at rival automakers, including Toyota, which saw sales fall by an almost unbelievable 42%. Not a single Toyota nameplate posted sales gains in April of '09.

Ford, on the other hand, found something to hang its hat on with the new 2010 Fusion. Ford moved 18,321 Fusions in April, which is a 21.7% improvement over last April and a record for any month. That success was offset somewhat by the 35.8% decline in F-Series truck sales, but a gain is a gain, and Ford will take anything it can get.

Unfriking believable. The hits just keep on coming for them. And to make it even better, without a dime of taxpayer money.

This is nice to see. I had a Focus as a rental/loaner and I was impressed at how good it really is, especially considering the price.

That and the Fusion Hybrid can out smug the prius on billboards with its fuel economy.

It's nice to see them doing ok after all the boneheaded moves they've made in the recent past. Even after all that, their heads are still above water. Better management of resources should lead to them coming out of this mess near the top.

Too bad they can't do the same with a football team.

Now if only they would get their heads out of their butts and sell the RS in US they'd be truly impressive.

A Toyota will last you 10 years with basic maintenance and with little problems. A Ford has a 3~4 years lifespan and are expensive to maintain so you'll need to buy at least two Fords to match the single Toyota. Over the long run, it's still better to buy a Toyota.

Hopefully, Ford will realize that improving quality/reliability and building vehicles that the whole public want to buy is a good thing to do.

I don't think I will ever need this class but saw one the other day and kind of liked the way it sat/looked.

New Fords really look good, probably except the US-spec Focus... when the time comes to buy an economy sedan, hopefully I can look to Ford or GM instead of Honda or Toyota

Say what? You have no idea what you are talking about. The fusion has been near the top of it's class in reliability and quality since it came out. Fords are just as reliable as Toyotas now.

Another clever thing Ford has is the Flex. Saw one at the auto show. Even from about 15 feet away it doesn't look that big. When you actually get in it though, you realize that it has a HUGE amount of space in it without looking like a Suburban. It's a stealth SUV - very impressive as a design.

Not suprising with the boring shit toyota has produced lately... they have nothing even remotely close to a sporty car.

Toyota needs to regain the inspiration they had when creating vehicles in the 1990's.

The only exciting car toyota/lexus has today is the is350 imho...

ok i'm with you on that one lol

whats with VENZA?

and just because its a toyota, doesn't mean it's good. half of them are mass produced in America, which have terrible fit and finish
