Diesel is CHEAP now!

Isnt it interesting how things change? I remember when diesel was a lot more than premium.

Check out the national averages.

Diesel: $2.41

Regular: $2.54

Mid: $2.70

Premium: $2.80

Wow, that's crazy. last time I payed attention to diesel, it was much more than premium... It's about time that less refined gasoline cost less than more refined premium gas...

Diesel historically has been cheaper than Regular. However in 2007 (or was it 2006?) the government mandated ultra low sulfur diesel fuel for the US. Most refiners were not setup to produce this fuel, so they either had to invest in the equipment, or get out of the business altogether. That caused prices to jump.

Now that it has been a few years, ULS Diesel production has caught up to demand, and most of the refiners have achieved their ROI.

But yeah, it is nice that it is finally cheaper, just when very clean and very efficient diesels are starting to make inroads in the US car market.....

Hmm...thanks for the intelligent insight. So you dont forsee them passing Premium prices again? I'll be watching it from now on.

It is still possible that diesel will surpass premium. If I knew that for sure, either way, I'd be betting on it!

Diesel prices tend to rise in the fall as demand for heating oil rises.

As soon as they refresh the X5 I think I'm going to get the 35d. I am afraid I will be disappointed by the build quality and the driving experience coming from a Cayenne S, but the fuel economy and gadgets will be nice.

The Cayenne will be available with a diesel, possibly even in the US!

Yeah I noticed this a couple of weeks ago. Diesel here was noticeably more expensive than gas, and then all of a sudden one day I noticed it had dropped to $.20 below regular grade prices. Seemed to have come out of absolutely nowhere.

I know, but I couldn't do that. My plan was to get a Cayenne Turbo, and I found one in stock for a good price, but I don't want to spend that much and have the same interior that I have now. If the "new" one was available right now I would probably get another Cayenne, but I don't want to wait another year and a half.
