I was really into bikes a few years ago, so everything may have changed. From what I recall these bikes were/are made in an Easter Block Country (former) from old (WW2, BMW) German designs. I don't believe I ever read a good review on them. Simple, so you can work on them, if that is how you enjoy a machine thats great. Unless they have changed a lot I wouldn't buy one.

I just clicked on your link, not much has changed.

The only reason I would consider buying one is if I really wanted a vintage bike but couldn't find one.....the more that I think about it, I just wouldn't buy one I would find the vintage bike that I wanted.

yeah, the top speed has me worried, but this being my first bike, it might be a good thing. I have thought about just buying the HD Iron bike, but I want something a little more one-of-a-kind.

If you want a good first bike, get the new Kawasaki 250R...2008 or newer. Best beginner bike out right now.

agree here. Ural is a little too heavy for the first bike. something in a 250-350cc range would be way better.
