Anyone deal with Bank Of America Overdrafts?
I recently overdrafted my checking account 12 times which equals 12 overdrafts of $420. I read my online statement wrong and it was my fault. Has anyone had any experience with this and if you could get any of them taken away? I went over about $50.

BS. You piss and moan and go higher in the chain till they drop them. Banks are marking profits now because of NOTHING BUT overdraft charges. They loose money investing so they up their charges & fees and viola! They make money again. It's crap and I personally stopped using major banks because of it. Wamu tried doing the same thing to me (11 overdrafts for charges that cleared an hour before my auto payment went in).

BofA = Bank of Apartheid
I despise those money hungry morons. They lost my business account after 16 years of banking with them exclusively. I am working on moving my personal accounts from them to Wells Fargo also. They are the 900 pound gorilla that no one wants but has to deal with somehow ....Screw that! |

damn, i remember it used to be like $30 for overdraft fee when still in college.
sometimes when we have job fairs at our school BoA will come put up a stand and have these 'stuff happens' cards that will waive a overdraft fee with each card. actually works. funny thing is last time i went to the BoA banking center for something to do with my acct. the person dehind the desk (not teller) gave me a few more after reviewing my acct didn't know if to feel embarassed or lucky *i think it's only for student checking accts |

Just EECB BofA and then plead your case. People have had success in getting some of them overturned and the money refunded to you.

I have recived so many overdraft charges in the past two years due to excessive gambling. Chase, formerly, Wamu will charge you $33 per any overdrafts. You have 53 days to pay them until they notify a collection agency which will really hurt your credit and possibly close your account for seven years.

you can at least ask them. i've gotten some overdraft fees waived before. let them know that you misunderstood something and ask them to do it as a sign of courtesy. they "might" waive it if you don't do it too often. if they don't, time to change banks. my mom switched to wellsfargo after years of banking with BoA.

More often than not a 'manager' of sorts will call you back and offer a very reasonable deal to you. The other way to go about it is to talk with a branch manager. If you have had good standing with the bank in the past, have their CCs and keep alot of money flowing through their system they are likely to waive at least some of the fee, but the phone option has worked better for me in the past. The way they get away with this nonsense is by charging the largest fees first. So if you happen to have 10 purchases in a day for 2$ each then overdraft your account by 20$ by buying a $4000 television, they will nail you with 10 overdraft fees and its fuckin bogus imo. Anyway, good luck to you. |

I have read a number of banks are pulling this stuff.
The nasties one I read is a guy who made a deposit on friday at the atm and used his debit card over the weekend only to find out a week later he was hit with a bunch of over drafts. The story with him was the bank only credit the deposit on monday after 5PM and debited the Debit card transaction immediately when they occurred. It use to be they would reconcile all those types of transaction at the close of each business day, well they still do that for deposits but not the debit transactions, they hit your account immediately. They told him they sent a new service agreement which explained these changes. Have you every tried to read those, and try and figure what changed, instead of sending something that says here is what changed they send you the entire new text. I personally had something similar happen with my Credit Card, they change the billing cycle from 30 to 25 days, claimed they told me with one of those long service agreement updates, only to get hit a late fee. I went online to pay my bill like I have been doing for the last 10 yrs on the 26th of the month. Made the payment as usual no indication it was late. Keep in mind I had this card since 1988 and my due day has always been the 26th of the month, and for the last 10 yrs I have been doing everything online and through quicken so I never look at my bills or read the service agreement since I always pay on time and pay off the card each month. When I call to complain the guy said well in your last statement there was a note at the bottom of your statement saying your due date was changed. Well that is a problem since I do not get statement since I do everything online. Needless the say I got the fee dropped since we put about $50K on that card a year. Because of these games I dropped their card. Screw them if that want to play games like that. I recommend if any company messes with your money to you show them what they can do with their business practices, by taking your business elsewhere. |

Yikes. That's scary Maestro as I'm in the same situation with paperless statements. Fortunately, I recently realized how to set up e-mail alerts for when my statements are issued.
